You could save yourself some time by just contacting whoever, to resolve it. The way you are handling this seems to be a waste of energy.

I've yet to understand why the OP has resorted to all his bluster.

In the original unedited post, he poses the question very clearly. "SOOOOO is it worth it to try to either warranty out the base OR buy one..."

And then later, he complains about the nature of the warranty.

Amusing thread nonetheless.

I would have, but my neighbor offered it to me after the local dealer was closed on Saturday and they don't re-open until Monday morning. Of which I have a very very busy work week this week, and flying to Staniel Cay Thursday for work on a week trip, but took a much needed weekend off at home goofing off. So I was hoping to find out an answer to what the parts cost, prior to Monday when the dealer opened. The BGE website is very poor, it doesn't describe what parts the grill has or comes with, or have a diagram, and doesn't have prices on parts, most dealers don't have prices on parts either. It took about 15 websites to find one that lists parts prices, but there's several different grates. All kinds of optional parts, so it's confusing as to what the grill NEEDS just to be the original functioning grill. Whereas on Sigforum, it seems like 500 members have a BGE and someone on here probably is a dealer and could have stated it needs Parts X, Y, Z and they cost XXXX without the half dozen false accusations.

Now I can continue on with my very busy work week Monday, without wasting 30 minutes of driving to the dealer, finding out what parts it needs, and asking them how much all of it costs.

Striker1- because BGE's website says to "call dealer" for the base. None of the parts sites online list the base as a part for sale. Some have prices for all of the wear parts, but all of them state call your dealer in regards to the base, if they mention it at all. So it sounds like they almost always warranty the base out or handle it on a circumstance by circumstance basis and almost always warranty it otherwise someone would be selling one with a price on it.

I did not complain about the warranty, I just mentioned that a lifetime warranty on a product should be lifetime, regardless of who owns it. Sears doesn't ask you if you're the original purchaser when you bring a broken tool in there.
Why does it matter if who owns it, purchased it? Lifetime should be Lifetime.

What I was asking was, what internal parts does the grill come with/need and how much do those cost. So if the price of the internal parts cost as much or more than the grill itself (which they do), then I could save myself the time and trouble of visiting the dealer and telling them the honest story on the grill, and then having to wait for them to find out from the manufacturer if they sell the base and how much OR whatever it is to replace the base.

Quite honestly, I'm tired of everyone picking apart my posts, taking apart sentences to mean something else, and making it out to be something IT ISN'T. If I was on here asking for someone's reciept so I could scam the manufacturer or dealer it would be an entirely different story. I don't need to scam anyone, nor do I.

At the same time I have been on this site 12 years and contributed over 14,025 posts. I have helped a lot of people with their boats with free advice via email and free parts and so forth without ever asking for anything in return. I have offered a few karma's. Sure, everyone has made mistakes in a few of their posts...we all have...I'm tired of getting grilled over BS and for something I was not trying to do (decieve a manufacturer).

Quite honestly, I own 3 grills/smokers and they all work perfectly and all are in good condition and I have zero need for another grill and only a little desire for a BGE. If I REALLY wanted one, I would just drive straight to the dealer and buy a new one on Monday morning or would've bought one a long time ago. However, if it would've cost me 60% of a new one to fix my neighbors, I would've fixed it and given my weber gold 22" kettle away which is in good condition to someone else for free. The only advantage I can see over my weber kettle is the BGE is more efficient (uses either less charcoal and the charcoal you use lasts longer). The weber smokey joe smoker I have is far superior in user friendliness because it has a door so you can add charcoal without removing your food and the racks if you need to, has a top and bottom rack, water pan, etc. Same with the weber gold kettle, the cooking rack hinges on the side and can easily add charcoal or wood without removing everything. Granted with the BGE, if you put enough coal/wood to start with you shouldn't need to add any.

YES, warranty out the base OR buy one. How much does the base cost??? Sooooo is it worth it to try to warranty it out or buy one. Online it says to call the dealer to replace a cracked base, which I was planning to do.

It sounded like from various websites in my research that the manufacturer warranties out a cracked base regardless of who owns it. It sounds like from what I read that nobody SELLS the base because the manufacturer always warranties it. Good companies usually go above and beyond.

Excam Man- why would I be asking how much the base cost, if I was planning on scamming someone???? The whole point of this thread was finding out how much all of the internal parts cost, what parts are needed, BEFORE the dealer opens on Monday so I don't waste my time, to see if it was worth spending the time to visit and talk to the local dealer to even inquire about replacing the base in the first place.

The local dealer is a great place, Culinary concepts which is loaded full of BBQ porn and really nice employees that make a 5 minute stop end up being 50 minutes by the time you stop being distracted looking at all of the goodies they sell, and bs'ing about BBQ. I bought my weber smokey mountain there along with other BBQ accessories and wood..... they sell 12 different types of wood for smoking by the pound.....along with all sorts of stuff......racks, shelves, knives, thermometers, rubs, etc. It's a place you can waste an hour in easily.

BOTTOM LINE- I have found out that all of the internal parts (that my neighbor threw out) cost more than the free grill is worth, and I don't need to WASTE my time visiting the dealer to even inquiring about replacing the base.

Why are you getting so aggravated? How is anyone here supposed to know how the parts are? It seems like you are arguing with yourself. This isn't really a big deal. Relax, put the keyboard down, have a beer and enjoy your Sunday. Big Grin

Edited because I just saw your post.

Given the amount of Big Green Egg owners on the forum. I figured (and was correct) that someone would know exactly which parts are on the inside of it, that way I could figure out if it was worth moving forward (OR NOT), that is all. There are a lot of accessories that are optional and some that are necessary and was trying to figure out which ones were necessary just to make it a functioning grill and what those cost.

I'm aggravated at the false accusations trying to make me out to be a scammer or swindler, which I am not and was not my attempt at all.

Here we go again. But, you know everything.

Considering that BGE states that to replace the base, you need to go directly through your local dealer AND you need to be the origional owner AND have the origional sales reciept AND it has to be registered for warranty to be effective OR to order one(and pay for it if it's not under warranty I assume). You can only get the base from a local authorized dealer. I don't see how there would be any other way?

In the unlikely event that you have a Warranty Claim on a Big Green Egg, these are the TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE BIG GREEN EGG LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY

1. THE BIG GREEN EGG: Each Big Green Egg® ceramic cooker (XXLarge, XLarge, Large, Medium, Small, MiniMax and Mini) carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty for materials and workmanship on all ceramic components (including dome, base, damper top, fire box and fire ring) to the original purchaser or owner who has purchased the product from an Authorized Dealer and has registered their Warranty as required (the “Warranty”). This Warranty is valid for as long as the original purchaser owns the EGG® or covered component, except for other ceramic, metal and wood components which are covered as explained below. This warranty is in addition to and does not affect your statutory rights which may apply.

WARRANTY CLAIM PROCEDURE:
A valid proof of purchase receipt from an Authorized Dealer will be required to make a Warranty claim. For Warranty support, contact the Authorized Dealer from which the item was purchased.

It is a ceramic grill, very easily broken by mishandling. It should be a lifetime to the original owner for manufacture defects, not mishandling (you drop it or something).

It can't be lifetime for anyone or they would be replacing them for people that found broken ones in the trash, in the dump, or their neighbors who want to get rid of a broken item (that may have been replaced by warranty).

You're expecting way too much from a company by advocating for a lifetime warranty on a breakable item that wasn't paid for but found broken.

I never really expected someone to be transporting a 218 pound bbq grill around town or to and from the park for a picnic on a Saturday from wherever they live. To me for 99.9% of the people that buy one, they have the store deliver it and it stays put in the backyard where they use it. But I can see your point too.

It can be fixed...see the link.

Crack Repair

Basically, you drill holes on either side of the crack and wire it together. The guy in the video did an outstanding job, his music...not so much.

I owned a BGE for 10 years and moved across the country with it twice. Weekly I wheeled it around my patio and even one time it fell over while I was wheeling it out to use it. Thankfully it didn't break but I wouldn't expect BGE to replace it under warranty if it had broken.

a "lifetime warranty" that doesn't follow the unit, irrespective of who owns it, is a good warranty in name only. I despise such policies and try to avoid such companies. Cheap bastards.

So I was driving today and had a 30 minute drive so I decided to call the BGE dealer rather than stop in. Spoke to them, told them the exact story. The dealer priced out the parts for the inside and I guess they sell for a heck of a lot less than the suggested retail, $545 for everythig: firebox, fire ring, charcoal grate, s/s cooking grate. He then said his own large BGE has had a crack in the bottom for a long time and he said he'd buy the internals and use it till it split open. I told him I didn't want to spend $545 and have it split open next week. He then told me to email BGE on their website and he said they're usually pretty good about helping people and to see what they say about replacing the base.

A new BGE without the stand xl was $1132 (stand is $160, could use my neighbors) in comparison a large with stand and everything was $1078 I think he said.

Buy a used one on Craigslist...

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."
