thin skin can't win![]() |
I need an under-sink filter to help remove taste and some occasional sediment from water at our kitchen sink in a new build in rural AL. We're on city water, so it's theoretically clean and treated when it rolls in, just wanting to buff that up a bit as we have done with the grassy tasting water in MS. In other words, a simple basic filter will work, don't want a reverse osmosis in-house water plant. I currently have this model three-filter cartridge model in MS, it works pretty well. My biggest complaint with it and similar ones is the connections. You can see even in the pics it's some sort of flexible plex type tubing, and is smaller than the normal supply lines. Link to what we have now: Amazon I'd prefer something where I can just insert into the middle of the current supply lines in same size instead of a shit-ton of adapters and three trips to the Home Depot that is 40 minutes away. I'm thinking a longer flexible supply line from cutoff over to where this is under sink, then another back to connect to the the existing supply line to the sink with a male nipple. Don't want a separate faucet, just want this in line with existing faucet supply. Finding one where the input/outputs are standard size fittings is a challenge for some reason. The sink install is really with tight, the water connection are buried up high behind fancy-pants faucet connections, disposal and dishwasher supply drain. So yeah, I'm willing to insert an extra point of possible leakage to avoid digging around in all that. ![]() Any ideas much appreciated. You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02

A friend in a similar situation added a 11" sediment filter to the main water line in the utility room, then added a charcoal filter to the line under each sink. Simple and the filters are under $10.

I've used a Multi-pure undersink filter for over 26 years. I change the filter every couple year, when I remember (CB6). I don't know if it's designed for a lot of particulate matter but you would have to change more often I suppose. .5 sub micron filtration from what I remember. It's not the pyramid scheme it used to be, I don't think.

We will never again have a Nuvo brand filter. We had a whole house unit that structurally failed, doing much damage. Of course it happened while we were away camping out of cell phone range. They are still denying any responsibility 3 years later despite forensic engineering showing it was defective. Idk if you are looking at any of their stuff, but I will never use them again!

Thanks for the suggestions and heads up on Nuvo. We had an Omnifilter that ruptured in a cabin in AL, thankfully while we were there and actually in the same room. It wasn't the fault of them, I chalk that up to user error. That unit had been installed for at least 10-15 years. The cabin is unheated and we turn off and drain water from pipes each fall, but it never occurred to me to take the case off this and empty. That it lasted that long with several hard freezes is a testimony to how sturdy they must have been built! You only have integrity once. - imprezaguy02
