I'm sorry. I know this topic gets beat to death at least once a year in The Lounge. But I really, really could use some help from the SigForum brain trust.

Several years ago in one of the treads on eyeglasses, someone posted a link to a website that sold eyeglass frames. Now the frames weren't cheap and they weren't fancy by any means. They were basic frames that were of high quality.

It wasn't the discount sites like Zenni Optical or 39dollarglasses. I know that there are supporters of both on the forum and I have purchased from those myself with good experiences.

These were quality frames that would last a long time.

I've searched through the forum, but can't find anything. It may have been Warby Parker, but I don't think it was. The website was nothing fancy and they didn't have a very wide selection. They were just quality frames at a fair price.

If anyone knows what I am talking about and can post the link again I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Warby is our go to. Me, my wife & 2/3 kids in glasses. Affordable enough, if one of the kids breaks a pair & they've held up well. Weakest part, for kids at least, is the hinges.

I too went with Warby-Parker for frames only.

I initially tried their “progressive lens” for my prescription, but couldn’t get past the wonkiness of the out-of-focus everything else but dead-on straight vision.

I returned them to the local store for the frames I wanted (I have a long temple length need), and then had the lined bi-focal lens made separately.

Thanks, P250UA5. I didn't think it was Warby Parker. But I can't remember at this point. I didn't think this site had as much selection as Warby Parker does. I'd buy the frames from Costco but I don't like anything in their selection.

I'm looking for a frame that I can take to Costco and have lenses put in. I have Astigmatism, Hyperopia and Presbyopia. Lenses get expensive.

Yeah, that's one thing I'm fortunate about. I can and do wear both progressives and traditional, lined bifocals.

I get two pairs of lined bifocals with a mid-range lens and a reading segment. I leave one at work and the other at home.

I'm back in the office and I get tired of switching between glasses. I really want to try office progressives which have a large intermediate or mid-range in the center and a small distance area up at the top. But if I'm going to drop a money on two sets of progressives I want to make sure the frames will last.

How are the frames holding up?

I see GlassesUSA.com ads on X all the time but I’ve never used them.
I just bought some non prescription glasses from Warby Parker. No glare, blue blockers. Kind of expensive but I’m hoping they are worth it, especially for night driving and anti glare.

Randolph makes the best frames I have ever used, but I think they only sell them as complete sunglasses. I've seen them on sale with their cheapest lenses for under $200.

When you buy just frames, where do you get your prescription lenses made to fit?

Costco will charge you $50 for bringing in your own frames, but they will fill the prescription.

Check out Lindberg frames. I've worn nothing else for at least the last 30 years.

Adios,

As Beancooker points out, Costco was what I was thinking. I was just in there today and they quoted me a $25 upcharge if I bring my own frames.

Most opticians/optical shops will install lenses in frame that you bring in. They all typically order the prescription blanks from a lab which are delivered as a big lense that sort looks like it was popped out of a magnifying glass or telescope. They then cut the lenses to fit the frame.
