Rode up with dottir to see her new Akita puppy. He won't be ready to come home until around November 1st, but the socialization has already started.

The Dog Lady has at least 6 adult Akitas living in the house, three breeding females, three males.

She also has the 8 month old female shown in the picture.

Somewhat to her surprise, ALL the dogs accepted me immediately, tho the pup's Mom was more interested in protecting her pups than meeting me.

Now, I don't know if it's salesmanship on her part or the unvarnished truth, but she said she's never seen that young female take to anybody as quickly as she took to me, and that she's moped around the house and laid by the door ever since I left. (I do detect a slight odor of bullshit, but I'm easy...)

She came down significantly on her asking price for her and I caved and went halves with my daughter. Seeing as SWMBO is so allergic, there's no way she can live here, but daughter will keep her at her place and I'll visit regularly. Daughter benefits from two dogs to entertain each other (and the older one to help teach the younger one about being a dog) and I can easily get my minimum daily requirement of dog spit.

As I've stated many times before, I really, REALLY miss having a dog, and this is about as close as I'm likely to get.

No kidding, right? I've never paid more than pound fees and shots for a dog in my life.

Great looking dog! For some reason dogs and babies seem to love me. Even those that the owners say are not friendly. I look at it as dogs are a great judge of character Smile

Enjoy the pup. I've got a 5 month Bernese Mountain dog pup my daughter bought over the summer. Living with me until she is trained so my daughter can take her for Junior and Senior year of college.

A somewhat better picture of her, without that ugly old bald guy in the way.

Her name is "Fate" by the way. Seems appropriate somehow...

Sounds like there's a little BS, but who cares! That is one fine looking pup.

Congrats! Razz

DO NOT post better pictures of her! I'm already envious -- and tempted. Wink

We always had Pound Puppies when I was growing up, too. A spaniel that couldn't stand children, a lab that could, and a Dalmatian that was absolutely devoted to us.

I wish I could add a dog to the newtoSig household!

Congratulations!!!

Yes, very good looking dog.
Since we lost our 15.5y.o. dog a month or so ago, I have not been able to think about getting another yet.

I’ve never been around an Akita. I guess they’re not too popular in Montana. But, I sure like a lot higher percentage of dogs than people.

I first found out about them in Japan. A Navy buddy of mine had one that I got along with great.

Seen/interacted with several since then, all have been very personable.

Since I told a few folks about this, I'm really surprised at the number of people that cautioned me about what vicious, dangerous, one-man dogs they are. Even on YouTube.

I suppose that's possible with the wrong breeder, lack of socialization and ignorant owners, but every one I've met has been a love-bug.
