Friend in Alabama was asking about this group, looks like they have a heck of a setup in Talladega.

What's the scoop...

Good program and good people that have been around forever. Started a long time ago as the DCM. Make money for their shooting programs by selling M1 Garands, other US owned firearms, ammmo, and other stuff. They host the National Matches every year as well. Are you sure you never heard of the CMP?

They also have a smaller store in N. Ohio...Camp Perry?, as mentioned it has been around forever and (I believe) were actually started by .gov decades ago to ensure they would have a pool of young men that could shoot.

Reminds me I really have to get off my duff and head up there and grab an M-1

They mail freedom straight to your house. Smile Jump thru a few hoops and they will ship a M-1 to your home, no FFL required. What's not to like?

I bought a beautiful M1 from them about 20 years ago. Had only been armory fired. But I heard that all the good rifles were gone-- don't know if that is true. In any case, it's always luck of the draw.

I have used the service from the south store and I can tell you shipping to your door is cheaper than the tax there.
Ammo is rolled up to your door also, one time I bought 20,000 rounds of 22 lr.
I will never shoot it all but it was sooo cheap.

Always regret not picking up an M1 Carbine when they were available. I did take full advantage of the Garands and the surplus Greek ammo when they were plentiful. Picked up a couple correct grades and service grades and several spam cans of ammo. Would have gladly purchased a surplus 1911 but there was so much BS around ordering that I decided not to even bother trying for one.

Great organization. I bought a M1 Garand, M1 Carbine and a 1903A3 from them! My only regret was not also getting a 1903 before they sold out.

I have bought two M1’s, a M1903, a M1903A3, and a M1 carbine from them. All needed some little TLC but, all perfectly serviceable. Picked up a Criterion barrel along w/ Lc, Danish, and HXP surplus ammo a couple times.

Now, I wouldn’t say all the good rifles are gone and someone here mentioned. Go to the north or south store and pick one out. I just received an email from the CMP yesterday that the have service grade M1’s for $650. Brand new Criterion barrel, brand new CMP walnut stocks, and a refinished receiver. Pretty good deal. The days of picking up a decent Garand anywhere including the CMP for under $400 are long over.

They sure think a lot of the 1911's they are getting.....

with that said I bought a M1 from them a few years back.... waiting list was a couple of months according to others.... I sent them all the paperwork and payment and mentioned in the letter that it was for my father's 80th birthday which was in three weeks and he is one of the 'Chosen Few'... the rifle arrived the next week.

Hey folks, if you got a few days you want to enjoy check out their advanced maintenance class. You spend two-three days building your own M-1 which they walk you thru step by step. Cheapest way to get a high quality M-1 along with the pleasure of doing it yourself.

I thought that in order to purchase from them you had to belong to a club that was affiliated with the CMP

is that still the case?

I'd love to pick up a couple of rifles

Yes that is still the case. The easiest way to check this box is to join The Garand Collectors Association. It counts as an affiliated club and they share your membership info with the CMP making this requirement very easy. And you get a high quality quarterly magazine with awesome pics and good articles.
