Read Gary's info on on Louisiana carry but, I wonder if local knowledge can add to it?

Not going to be partying on Bourbon St. so...

This pretty much sums up my opinion of it.
New Orleans is rough, act accordingly.

Do not consume alcohol and carry a gun. Good advice all around. Keep your head on a swivel in the city. Travel with a group. All things you probably know.

Keep your wits about you. Stay away from the booze.

Lest you wake up in an ally in the quarter, missing your gun, your clothes, and any semblance of what used to be your dignity. If you find yourself in a fog, dressed in nothing but beads around your neck, with some unknown woman's panties tied around your naughty bits, with the smell of beer and puke on you, then you got just what you deserve.

Ask me how I know. Actually, don't ask me how I know.

I suggest before you go to spend a little time on the various NOLA news sites.
If it bleeds, it leads. Cajun style.
Lots of folks have advocated spare mags, but consider honing your driving skills too. Mad Max. Cajun style.

As you would when visiting any large city be aware of your surroundings and people. I live nearby and always carry when in the city.

No booze if you carry and you cannot carry into any establishment that sells alcohol. With the hot weather consider something comfortable to carry.

Does that mean that you can not carry while eating in a restaurant that sells alcohol, even if you are not drinking?

Lots of pickpockets in a crowd. Make sure your gun and wallet are secure.

I do not know of many decent restaurants in New Orleans that do not serve alcohol. It is my understanding that we are talking about establishments that sell more alcohol than food and are classified as bars, clubs etc. No problem in your typical restaurant.

Yeah that is a good point. Also don't mess with the kid who says I bet you five dollars I can tell you where you got dem shoes. That means you have already been pegged as a tourist.

Also do not expect to be able to use the bathroom inside an establishment unless you buy something. They are serious about that stuff.

Carry a good flashlight. A couple of times my partner and I stopped miscreants from coming near us, just by lighting them up with a Streamlight. One night we were heading back to our hotel, when three thugs stepped off diagonally across the street. I flipped on the light to illuminate them and heard one of them say "hello officer" as they stayed on their side of the street.
