I can hear transformers whine in things like TVs and other electronics so I can't tell if what I'm experiencing is intermittent tinnitus or if in just the victim of being surrounded by electrical appliances. Regardless, I'm going to try Sudafed. Does it have to be the pseudoephedrine version or will the phenylephrine type work, too?

Mark, do a search for “The Hum”. You may be one of the people affected. People swear they can hear all kinds of electromagnetic interference.

That’s some funny shit Monkey, I felt like that every time I took a hearing test.

The worst part is one of the two freqs in my left ear is the same pitch as one of the test freqs....at the PD I could see out the window and cheat...

I first developed tinnitis after a series of sinus infections and ear infections. My ears didn't pop for 5 weeks.

Caffeine, alcohol, stress, clogged up ears, and more exacerbate the effects.
This is my experience as well. I describe my tinnitus as how high the volume is turned up - it's never off but too much caffeine, ear congestion, etc. can make the volume much, much louder.

Been there, done that. I'm in the OSHA hearing testing program at work due to riding in helicopters. A couple years back, my head was congested and my tinnitus volume was really turned up. I failed the test on a Friday as the tone was identical to my tinnitus and I would go minutes in between hearing anything in the headset. I rescheduled for Monday and many times per day over the weekend used the netipot. Additionally, I followed my former ENT's advice (exact opposite of what Mom taught me) by pinching my nose closed and trying to exhale through my nose. My congestion and pressure went way down which turned the tinnitus volume way down, and I passed the hearing test on Monday.

Tinnitus is a curse.

That can be prevented.

Seeing as how this thread is still alive I will update. Still taking the Sudafed as of yesterday. Congestion is still noticeable but seems diminishing.Tinnitus is still ever present but severity of it follows the severity of the congestion. At least now if I yawn or am chewing I can feel and hear the left ear trying to open up so I guess that's some progress. I think I'm done taking Sudafed as it doesn't allow for a very sound sleep and induces some damn strange dreams, at least for me.

It's been long enough now that hearing my voice inside my head when I talk and howling tinnitus is everyday normal living. Funny what you can get used to.

Stay away from salt. I have had Menieres in the past. Aggravated by salt and fluid retention in middle ear. No salt, water pill, and meclizine helped some. Eventually it went away.

Gunfire exposure is cumulative...and no matter how much earpro, you wear...a cannon going off next to you will give you hearing problems...we Also had to go thru the engine room to get to our berthing, who comes up with that??

I went to the VA this morning to get my hearing aids adjusted. I asked the Dr. about a noise machine to use at night for my Tinnitus. So she ordered one to be sent to me.

I sleep with the tv on. I have for 30 years. I cannot sleep in a dead quiet room. If I spend the night somewhere where a tv is not in the guest room I stream on my phone.

Mrs. Mike downloaded a white noise app to my phone, so when we go visit relatives I have some noise to drown out the ringing.

It was free.
