I remember the day I got her. I wasn't even looking to get a pet, much less a lifelong companion.

My brother and I had gone to a gun show and the cost of the ticket let you into the other venues, one which was an exotic pet show. He already had a cockatoo, a conure and some parakeets.

We were almost ready to leave when I feel a tug at my shirt. Roxy had reached her little foot through the bars and grabbed on to it and refused to let go.

I couldn't leave her and bought her on the spot. I knew NOTHING about cockatoos, but I promised her that no matter what she would be loved and I would never abandon her.

We have been through everything together. Even through a wife that merely tolerated her and wanted to relegate her to the garage.

Literally I have had her half my life.

Here is the day I brought her home all those years ago. I was young and pretty back then.

Here she is now. Even more beautiful that the day she came home. Me, not so much.

Happy Birthday Roxy!!

Mars pardon the ignorance, but in her new home picture she appears full grown physically. Are parrots best transferred as fully grown vs say a kitten is only weeks old and still small.

Thanks for the education

Yes, they are juvenile adults pretty much a year or so old when you bring them home if you are an amateur. Roxy was fully weaned and was self feeding.

My brother bought an unweaned baby this last time and finished weaning her.

Happy Birthday, Roxy!

Is this the anniversary of your meeting, or of her hatching?

Congratulations to both Marsy AND Roxy.

I know just enough about birds to know that takes some serious dedication and love.
