It’s been a long time since a Super Bowl felt like this. You might need a Kleenex

As it should be sung. Not about the singer wandering from the original presentation, making it about "how cool am I." "I can yodel" and hit high screeching notes for extended periods. Nope, get that crap out. More of this sort of presentation.

Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks. Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools. And their grandchildren are once more slaves.

My thoughts exactly. I DESPISE any rendition that strays from the original melody as written. It needs no improvement.

This is one of the best I've ever heard.

That was great. But sometimes a pop star can get it right.

I expected to see Whitney Houston show up in this thread, and thought about saying something in the OP. Yeah, she does a nice job, but…

Respectfully, any diva-singing rendition of the sacred SSB sounds atrocious. It was not composed to sound this way, and it shouldn’t.

YMMV etc.

Angels in heaven couldn't sing it better than Whitney Houston. Whatever her demons, I'll ever be grateful she did such honor to the anthem and the nation that night.

Two wonderful renditions of a great, great song. I, like many, sing this song at live sporting events - but seldom get through it without choking up. For love of God, Family and Country.

Once again, agreed. Whitney Houston had a great voice and was a great singer, but this is not her song to interpret and decorate with melodic embellishments. I am not impressed by that. What I am impressed by is a rendition that nails it note for note the way it was written. That's a feat in itself; it is not the easiest song to sing well, and it is not a pop song to cover in any way one sees fit, or to showcase one's vocal skills. It is a National Anthem with recognized and acknowledged words and melody. It doesn't need modification or improvement. Feel free to disagree, but you'll never change my mind. It pains me to hear "interpretations", and always will.
