My wife and I just got back from the NRA Annual Meeting in Indianapolis. Had a good time and felt safe and comfortable the whole time. Next year the meeting is in Dallas. I think the 2025 meeting is in Atlanta. My wife is very worried about crime. I see the thread about Atlanta. So how does Dallas compare to Atlanta? Any thoughts on which city is safer? Or should I just forget going to either one? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Well it's not Chicago. Maybe your wife needs some training? Crime is everywhere, you just need to develop a sense of awareness. Speaking for Texas- we are relatively gun friendly, FYI.

NRA Annual Convention was in Dallas in 2018. I attended and felt perfectly safe. Good police presence and good concealed carry laws in TX. Alyssa Milano organized a 50 or 60 person gun protest that got more news than the thousands of law abiding citizens attending the convention. NRA Annual Convention was in Houston in 2022 and I attended with my GF. An order of magnitude more police presence including SWAT teams so they were ready, but nothing happened. GF and I even left, wandered through Discovery Green, and ate lunch in Downtown. GF was a new gun owner and was a little uncertain about going, and was shocked at how polite and nice everyone was. To paraphrase, "bunch of middle aged and older people who act like [me]." I'm pumped for the convention in Atlanta. Had a great time at the one in 2017, I believe. Saw Trump and Cruz speak. Amazing. Every city has crime. Until they start holding conventions for 100k people in a corn field in Nebraska, the possibility will exist. I certainly wouldn't let it stop me. I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.
