Back, and to the left |
A few months back we had a thread on these tool sets and a fellow showed up from there with some pretty sweet deals, I just couldn't spend any money at that point. I am definitely interested in owning some of these fine American made tools. Does anyone remember if it's best /(or possible) to order direct from Chapman or from amazon or somewhere else? I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. -Ecclesiastes 9:11 ...But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by Him shall glory, but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped. - Psalm 63:11 [excerpted]

You can order direct from Chapman: https://chapmanmfg.com/ ...let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one. Luke 22:35-36 NAV "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves." Matthew 10:16 NASV

Excellent tools,My old set came in a metal tin box with red covering.Pretty tattered these days from being drug to range and stuff. Tools still are like brand new.

I hope there’s room for a dissenting opinion here. As a result of last years thread, I bought a set of screwdrivers. I’m sorry to say I was not impressed. The tips are “fine”, but I found a ton of wiggle in the way the changeable tips fit into the handle. Overall I found the set pretty ordinary, at best. Perhaps I’m missing something, cuz the consensus opinion on SigForum is (almost) never wrong in these matters.

Love Chapman tool sets. I have two, and bought another two sets for my kid’s glovebox. On the smaller pointed tips, you do need to start easy before increasing torque (it’s really a function of the available metal). Can’t be ham fisted... but with reasonable care, I’ve had one set 15+ years, and still use it regularly. The folks at Chapman are good people. If you have a concern/issue, just call them up and I think you’ll find they’ll do their best to make it right. Have you tried tightening the little set screw? There's a set screw where the tip fits in the shaft, and again where the shaft fits in the handle. A little tiny allen wrench should be in your bit set.

My first exposure to Chapman tool set was about 40 years ago as a door prize in a gun club meeting. It's still in regular use to this day. Granted, the old red-leather cover is a bit deteriorated. Never any trouble with loose anything. Little set has solved lots of intricate 'smithing needs. Second set was identical, won in a raffle about 30 years ago. Marvelous to have back up set. I actually managed to mangle one of the tiny hex-head bits in anticipated stressful application. Ordered a couple extra tip sizes as well. Replacement was very moderate cost. Got a chance to thank the lady who built the very first set I owned. Imagine! Bought the actual 'gun repair' full set a couple years ago via the previous thread. Fancy new yellow case cheers up the entire process. So many new bit sizes sometimes takes a little search to find what I'm looking for. **************~~~~~~~~~~ "I've been on this rock too long to bother with these liars any more." ~SIGforum advisor~ "When the pain of staying the same outweighs the pain of change, then change will come."~~sigmonkey

I deal direct and they do have great service and deals at times. They aren't my regular tool for everything, in fact most things. Where they excell is when space is an issue and nothing else will work. Great people and made in the USA. ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

I bought a set last year and keep finding uses for them. The range of bits and bit holders are great, as is that cool ratchet. I've been able to get them into small places to tighten stuff up (Ceiling fan blades above the light just the other day) that no other bit driver could reach. Great stuff! If only they made a Browning A5 set, I had to get that from Brownells...

Bought my set in 1976 - over 40 years ago. Set is still in nice shape, as I save it for gun use only. Added the Allen bit selection in the yellow wrap. Also very handy. Very pleased, would recommend and buy again should I find a need.

Joel, Do you have “security” Allen and Torx bits available? I have several yellow box sets, but I’m currently using Megapro for the former. RB Cancer fighter (Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma) since 2009, now fighting Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma.
