last night. 10:20 PM CTZ. It was a large green fireball headed WNW from Gulf Breeze, FL and broke into two parts. Neat.

About a year ago I had to get up in the middle of the night for a bathroom break with our oldest dog.
I was standing and waiting when there was big flash followed by a falling light like a flare.
Really cool thing to see.

When I saw mine I was half asleep when it first appeared and wondered about exactly what I had seen.

Turns out there is a website for reporting and tracking these. They are also referred to as a fireball.
Using the coordinates of multiple reports and sometimes other tracking, they can put together a pretty accurate location, size and track. Anyone that has a picture or video can upload it to the site.

I'm glad I happened to be facing the one I saw. Had I had my back to the meteor I would have only seen a big flash followed by very light sky for a few more seconds and really wondered what I had witnessed.

Mine had entered the atmosphere in Tennessee and was also captured on several video cameras in private vehicles and also on security cameras within fifty miles of my location.

Cool.

I've seen lots of them, but never one large or close enough to be called a fireball.

Very cool.

I was at the range night qualifying on the evening the big one that has been in several videos over PA, MD, WV back in the 90’s passed over. Gave off enough light to see clearly, and not so much as a sound.

My wife and I saw a fairly good sized streaker that air burst directly overhead, again without a bit of noise.

Saw a bolide as a kid. Right place, right time. Sounds like what we're talking about here.

Friday night, mid to late 90's? Greenish in color? If so I saw the same one.

I call them bolides - have seen several

most are low enough in the atmosphere that they actually leave a smoke trail that persists

I've heard a sonic boom from one that broke up...about 20 seconds after I saw it

Although not reality, I had an alarming dream the night before last. I dreamed that my wife and I were on an island, somehow affiliated with the military (we're both retired USAF). We were in an air terminal and everyone except me was busy with paperwork, computers, etc. I look out on the ocean and see a couple of meteors (a big one kind of Japanese tea cup shaped and a smaller, undefined shape) streaking down...and they're not breaking up. I told my wife to look up just before the impact. Shortly thereafter, a 1,000 foot wall of water collapsed upon us. That's when I woke up.

Were you within AFR 35-10 (it's always the hair) and were you later than 15 minutes "before on-time"?

Those are always the one's that got me.
My hair's too long or my plane just taxied out of the spot and I'm not on it!

Those bolides are awesome to see. I only have seen one, I was driving down a rural two lane road at about 2:00am when all of sudden it seemed to be coming right towards me in a blink of an eye, I reflexively ducked down for a second, and it was gone.

It's now 36-2903 but 35-10 rolls off the tongue so much better Wink

When I was probably 10 years old I saw a very large meteor within the atmosphere and it was a very cool sight to see. I think it is cool to see any shooting star, but to see something like that is awesome.
