I'm guessing that there aren't many Colorado forum members who read the Denver Post, but those who do know that as Denver became a one newspaper city, the Left leaning Denver Post moved even further to the Progressive Left...and they jacked up their delivery rates while doing so and readership has dropped. Three months ago the president and publisher of the Colorado Springs Gazette started a new digital newspaper called the Denver Gazette. Radio talk show host Mike Rosen recently interviewed the president of the Denver Gazette and their approach to delivering news, which is to deliver fair and balanced news reporting, and to clearly differentiate between what is actually news reporting from Op-Ed reporting. They use wire source material from both the AP as well as from the Washington Examiner, and source pieces from a range of recognized journalists and news commentators from both the Left and the Right, including from noted local Conservatives. I am old enough to remember when the Rocky Mountain News was a morning paper and the Post was an afternoon delivery paper. My parents always said that the News was for people who liked to turn to the last page to read the comics and the Post was for people who wanted news. We were a Post household. I recall reading the classifieds in both back when they could and did advertise firearms. We also had the chain of Gart Brothers Sporting Goods. We didn't know how great we had it then. "Someday I hope to be half the man my bird-dog thinks I am." looking forward to 4 years of TRUMP! | |||

Back then, if you bought ammunition in Colorado, the store took your ID and recorded your ammunition purchase in a book the state could look at. I've got years worth of his shows on a back up drive, have spoken with him on-air several times as well as exchanged emails, and have a copy of his excellent book. Although I don't necessarily agree with him on every single position he takes, after listening to him for years, I've learned a lot from him and he has helped shape my positions and beliefs with his clear rationale fact based thinking and analysis. He is also a very skilled interviewer. My biggest complaint with Mike is that he didn't train a protege or clone himself to have someone fill his shoes when he retired... ...so, I guess that makes me a fan of his.  | |||

Yes sir, I remember the firearms in those classifieds too...and I remember Gart Brothers Sporting Goods. They often had mil-surps for sale, mostly Russian, along with the ammo to go with them, and at prices that made you want to buy 3 or 4 at a time. Ahhh, the good ol' days. | |||

I had completely forgotten about that, but yeah, I remember not long after first moving to Colorado and the first couple times I bought ammo I was asked to provide ID which I thought was strange, but never made a big deal about it since I never had to fill out any paperwork. Come to think of it, I don't rightly recall when stores stopped asking for ID. | |||
