Guys, as mentioned this isn't the first I've flown with a gun. I'm just looking for a smaller case.
#4 is incorrect. Everytime I've flown with a gun I had a full 50 round Federal HST cardboard box packed under the gun in the same case. TSA has never once asked to open the gun case.

Well as I stated, it has been a while since I have flown with firearms and things have probably changed. I have flown with guns several hundred times, not 5, so I have experienced a lot and was just trying to help. Apparently you already had the answer to a question you asked. If all you wanted was a smaller case option, then that is what you should have asked and that is all I would have provided. Just trying to help.
