I agree and think it probably goes beyond this. If PRC attacks TWN, then any response likely means WWIII, not just a limited party war.

It seems like the decision will be - do we let PRC have TWN or do we start WWIII.... How palatable would that be for the average American, let alone the rest of the world? How would the UN / NATO react? War? Fines and stern warnings, maybe a sanction or two? I'm guessing the latter. Not until the US or EU is attacked directly will any action be taken.... And PRC won't due that unless they have a way to neutralize our nukes.

The whole world might turn on China if the 60% of the world's semiconductors produced by Taiwan are no longer available. That would devastate global economies. And can you imagine the reaction to no more iPhones?
