They suck as it is and their head is barely above water. If they lose the Amazon contract, will they go under? Will our US mail go to FedEx or UPS and all the govt employees will have to find work? Will an inept govt entity continue to waste money like they did on the electric vehicles? Only 3B for 612 vehicles - what a bargain. https://www.pcmag.com/news/ama...s-negotiations-stall https://nypost.com/2025/12/02/...ly-612-trucks-built/

Honestly Amazon is poised to bring their own delivery service entirely in-house and maybe take over the mail, too. In the last 5 years they've built distribution centers all over the place, and even out here in the sticks I'm starting to see their delivery vehicles almost as much as I do USPS, UPS, and FedEx. They're amazingly efficient at it, and on the rare occasion something goes wrong they take care of it. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

The USPS can't just "go under". It's only one of like 2-3 things specifically spelled out in the United States Constitution that it's the government's job to provide to the people.
Yes they suck and need badly to be blown up and privatized like the UK did but that will take a very long time if ever.

It was important when written but that is one thing that needs to be changed. The incompetence will never end, they are a lost cause and just suck up money. Yes, there are good employees but the system as designed will continue to fail. USPS is not as important as they once were and the need for them has changed.

I'm sure somebody made really good plans on how the USPS can reinvent themselves and turn a profit... They mailed it to HQ, but it got lost at Palmetto, Ga. and will never leave 30268.

UPS, FedEx & DHL are well established freight carriers, Amazon has learned to develop its own freight-parcel service with its own fleet of delivery drivers, trailers and airplanes. OnTrac and a few other third-party carriers have grown as delivery contracts become more complex, yet USPS wants to dig its heels-in and attempt to play hardball with Amazon. The only people I've ever seen in line at the Post Office, were older than 60-years of age. For the time being, I can see USPS surviving for at least another decade given that the majority of users are of an older generation however we know that day is coming soon to close doors.

Went to the Post Office to drop off a bunch of Christmas cards, they have a sign to the effect that Priority Rates and some others were going up for the Holiday season. Do other carriers do this at Holiday time ?

This is exactly what's happening. I have not gotten an Amazon package delivered by anyone other than Amazon for months. We have a distribution center a half hour away. Federal Express (not Ground) got rid of their Amazon contract a number of years ago. Federal Express and UPS would go to war to get that contract at one time. Federal Express finally figured out that taking business that lost you money just to keep it from your competitor made no sense. Who is probably going away is Federal Express. I spent 15 years there and have a couple buddies who are still there. They just aren't doing the volume anymore and the number of Priority Overnight packages isn't near what it used to be. They actually send couriers over to Fed Ex Ground to help out on really slow days. So look for those two to merge and the old Federal Express be dissolved. USPS will always be around imo. Too big to fail right? Federal Express will still be flying planes. We were always told international shipping is where they made their money. The domestic service was a tax write off. Besides Federal Express moves a lot of military equipment and personnel when things need to be moved around the world. "Fixed fortifications are monuments to mans stupidity" - George S. Patton

Everything that I get from Amazon that will fit in a mailbox, and sometimes larger packages, still continue to be delivered by USPS. I have two items now that were supposed to be delivered today via USPS, but are now delayed until the 13th! Nothing, and I mean NOTHING that they ship is ever on time anymore! Even when I had something ship out of Floriduh via DHL, DHL handed it off to USPS so it could traverse the Southeastern United States several times before finally arriving here. This crap is getting old! Oh, and I have an Amazon distribution center less than 10 minutes from my house, but it doesn't seem to matter because of USPS... ____________________________ Bill R. A "Cadillac Pensión"? A postal worker with 30 years of service might see a pension around $1,500-$1,800/month, ...the remainder of their retirement is from payments into Social Security and a worker contributarios into a 401K.

Honestly, if it got back to working as well as it did in the late 90s…. It may have some use. Electronic communications need a serious rework to be useful for “real” communications. (I’m surprised how many doctors now mail stuff to me.)

Four Amazon warehouses within 20 minutes, but Amazon decided to outsource to USPS for Black Friday deliveries as well as December's subscribe & save deliveries. Of course, Amazon being Amazon decides to: USPS receives them all Thursday, and delivers them over a 3-day period instead of 1-day. They also decide that items in envelopes can be wedged into my community mailbox (remember some envelopes contain fragile items). My fat ass takes the knee scooter 2.5 blocks to find half the packages are busted so after scooting back 2.5 blocks have to deal with Amazon artificial "intelligence" to get refunds. Another USPS match made in hell (i.e. UPS, FEDEX, and DHL partnerships sucked too). I hope Amazon cuts them off. I spoke to one of our letter carriers yesterday and she told me she had 340 Amazon parcels for delivery on her route a couple of days earlier. That's along with all her other mail. If you think that is workable no matter who is delivering the mail, you would be wrong.

Two totally different things. USPS is a money pit agency run by our inefficient government. Not sure how you even relate the 2nd amendment. Tell me, how much does the 2nd amendment cost tax payers? In addition, tell me if you think the debacle of going to electric vehicles was done well? I would imagine you work for them or have. If so, you probably know even better than I do how poorly run it is.
