Elections and the Tenth Commandment
I came across this quote the other day from P.J. O'Rourke and it really resonated with me, putting the Biblical Tenth Commandment in context.

The first nine Commandments concern theological principles and social law. But then, right at the end, is 'Don't envy your buddy's cow.' How did that make the top ten? What's it doing there? Why would God, with just ten things to tell Moses, choose as one of those things jealousy about the starter mansion with in-ground pool next door?
Yet think how important the Tenth Commandment is to a community, to a nation, indeed to a presidential election. If you want a mule, if you want a pot roast, if you want a cleaning lady, don't be a jerk and whine about what the people across the street have — go get your own.
The Tenth Commandment sends a message to all the jerks who want redistribution of wealth, higher taxes, more government programs, more government regulation, more government, less free enterprise, and less freedom. And the message is clear and concise: Go to hell.




If you like religion, laws or sausage, then you shouldn't watch them being made.

The GDCs don't believe in God. So, using the Commandments to argue with them is useless.

I must disagree. There are many Christian denominations with socialist/communist belief. I typed out a list and then deleted it because someone will get their panties in a wad.

Seems pretty clear. Do not envy your neighbor for what he has. Rather, get busy and acquire what you want/need yourself!

Short version: Work to get what you want or need. Rather than envying what your neighbor has .

We put our son in a "Christian" school for kindergarten. Soon, we discovered that the faculty had a very Marxian view about social interaction and the redistribution of "wealth." We pulled him out of that school forthwith, and found an authentic Christian school for him to attend.
