Anybody Here Into Big (Tow) Trucks?
quote:
Am curious to know your thoughts on the shown if you watch it, and whether it's the 'real deal' or scripted BS or somewhere in-between.

I think everything on TV is scripted to some extent. I only watched the first few seasons, but the size of Jamie's business was certainly misrepresented.

I don't believe the accidents are scripted in any way, and most of what you see there is exactly how I remember it. Of course it's warmer and drier when watching it on television. Big Grin

Pepe's Towing out of LA along side their local competition Van Lingen Group are also worth watching on Youtube. Their style is a bit closer to how I learned the business as opposed to Ron Pratt which tends to be a bit slower and more methodical. Being in a large metro area, you'll also see more interesting recoveries.

Most of my life I have "suffered" from Tow truck envy! Our shop had 4 small wreckers, 2 C30 Centurys (hydraulic), a C40 twin boom Holmes and a C30 Jerr Dan flat bed, and for 6 years I was the main driver of them. I would pass those rigs and eat my heart out. Down here in the late 80's we had Kauff's and Dade Towing, boy did they have some nice rigs.

Thanks for posting this.
