First of all, he will never vote for a Democrat if he moves there. Now with that out of the way:

He has a Master’s in CS from UC San Diego, his thesis was on machine learning (AI). He has done work in that area as well as software development in Java, C++, Python.
He has a friend in Fort Worth who works for Lockheed, he’ll be starting there then going to Austin, probably San Antonio. Going to some Meetups for various users’ groups, hoping to network there.
As I understand it, his age (46) is against him in this industry, don’t know if that has changed due to the tight labor market. Also, he was pursuing other things the last few years, so he doesn’t have a continuous record of employment in software engineering.

Any advice from Texas SF members who are familiar with the software industry there?

We are doing a lot with machine learning, lots of tech in the Metroplex as well.

I have a few good connections with our tools/software people so if he is interested have him send his CV over to me.....

Start in Frisco. If he starts looking there, he will stay there.
Much nicer than Dallas and very family oriented.

Whatever. When he gets here, let us know how to contact him so we can give him a welcome dinner.

Def want to check with local police on which neighborhoods to live in and which to not..take a HARD look at whoever his potential neighbors are going to be. I would stay out of Austin but that is just me.

My advice is come to Houston. Jobs everywhere and lots of money to be made here. I should have come here long ago. The food here sucks though.

But for software industry jobs id say Austin is the place to be.
