My first end grain 3d tumbling cutting board
I've always wanted to make a end grain cutting board with a 3d cube pattern. This weekend I gave it a shot. It's not perfect but I feel it turned out pretty good. I learned a few things in the process and had fun. I had plenty of Walnut and Cherry but little in the way of a lighter wood. I ended up using Hickory. Roll Eyes Something like Maple would have been ideal and would have made the cubes really pop. Anyway.... here it is with a couple of other pieces.

So what a weird coincidence. I literally just posted to my buddies that we could play Qbert on
Y new suitcase. I’m at the airport now and my new luggage has that same pattern. Not nearly as cool as your boards. But a weird coincidence.

These go to eleven.

Very cool! One day I want to take a stab at making a couple of these myself.

More than suitable for a fine crafts show. Now to enter juried competitions?

Very nicely done! Based on watching videos on making these, it looks like a lot of upfront planning goes into it. Well done.

Up north, hard maple is one of our dominant species, we are fortunate in that respect. Two weeks ago we took about 10,000# of logs to the local saw mill, mostly red oak, some pignut hickory, ash and maple. Mostly 1x boards, but also some 2" thick planks. Got it stacked and stickered in the shed. Heading to the mill tomorrow again, this time with two loads of large white pine for 1x boards. Also have a spalted hackberry log on the load, anxious to see how that turn out. Woodworking is fun. Smile

I'm a fan of his work. One of the reasons I was intrigued with the idea of making them.

It's just a hobby for me. Most of the pieces end up with family members. Big Grin

It does take a little upfront planning with lots of measuring along the way. So many ways to muck it up.

For those interested in making these, here is a link to a real master from Russia.
His work in incredible and inspiring.

So nice I don’t think I could bring myself to actually use it for it’s intended purpose. That’s like kitchen art. Great job!

I'd have a hard time using those for cutting.
