I haven't seen a discussion about this new News outlet. WGN has started doing a national news program called News Nation. Also available online here https://www.newsnationnow.com/ The premise behind News Nation is that they are going to broadcast the news without bias and without injecting opinion. I've watched a bit of it so far. The short bit that I've watched I will agree that they are just putting out the news without opinion. To some extent it is refreshing. Now for the problems as I see them. 1) The reporters are all young and well dumb. This is only a problem as it will cause viewers to turn the station. The verbiage they use is very general and often incorrect. For instance tonight the weather guy says "and now for what is having the biggest impact on people" he then refers to a hurricane that is building but hasn't hit anything. My thoughts, well a hurricane can have a big impact, but currently, it isn't. Whereas all the fires across the west coast are having an impact right now. Ok nitpick, but it just shows how poorly their scripts are written, or just how stupid the anchors are. 2) Those same reporters well for the most part are attractive but that is not enough to hold a viewer's interest. The show/presentation is just not exciting or interesting. Thus my conclusion/opinion is that it will soon fail. I like the idea, just shaking my head at the execution of it. What say you? __________________________ My door is always open to Sigforum members, and I'm always willing to help if I can.

I watched tonight, thought it was OK and refreshing. I did not see even one blond.

Don't Panic |
In a sense, the news is supposed to work like recon in the military: just find out what's happening (or not happening) and report back. It'd be nice to find a single news source that worked like that. Didn't mix opinion with the reporting, didn't ignore stuff, and rather than spinning their reporting to fit their viewpoint, they'd restrict their opinions to their editorials. Imagine if the news reporters of the military (recon units) had axes to grind and ignored stuff they saw that went against their grain. As in, convinced beforehand that one flank held no danger, the recon group decided on their own not to keep an eye on that flank at all. How well would that go? About as well as 2020, I think. One hopes NewsNation pulls this off, and starts a trend. We could use some straight-shooting in that business.

A noble idea, but, no, I don't see it working. Even if they are sincere in their efforts, there is an overwhelming bias in the news media in this country. As the saying goes, you can't ask a leopard to change its spots. Take this story for example: President Trump holds indoor rally in Nevada While the story does include quote from Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh. it also includes the following sentence: So what? Does "News Nation" make such observations in stories regarding other gatherings of people, such as: Man shot, killed by police in Pennsylvania sparks protests Nope. I see a photo on that page, of people standing next to each other, yet not one word about "social distancing". Same old stuff. Also, did you happen to notice what's at the bottom of each of these stories?: "The Associated Press contributed to this report". "We're unbiased and ethical, but meet our partners, La Cosa Nostra." Right So, what I say is this is either meaningless posturing from the news media, or a doomed experiment. One might as well expect squirrels to change a flat on your automobile. ____________________________________________________ "I am your retribution." - Donald Trump, speech at CPAC, March 4, 2023

Their reporters vote for someone, therefore they have SOME bias. Oh, and this is not PC clickbait. Not at all. Nope. Objective reporting, all the way. Yep. Researchers predict global temperatures to hit highest level in 50 million years

No app available for Apple TV. Starts at 8 p.m. ET. Nope. Make a decent app for Apple TV, start it at 7 p.m. ET, and I'll try it. Make it be what it purports to be, and I'll pay for it. As long as we're idealizing, when I worked in tv news, my idea was zero on-air camera talent. Pics, video, audio and graphics. That doesn't remove the possibility for bias but does address the biggest stumbling point -- egos. Print media fall short without moving images but egos still rule the roost, Bob Woodward's name is supposed to automatically bring gravitas. OK back to reality, not gonna happen. Tucker Carlson's message would be just as strong if he were just a voice, few of the pretty boys, blonds and preeners could say the same. Imagine being one of them when no one recognizes you at the super market. I can dream. Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

The few times I’ve watched, it seemed mostly fairly neutral. Then they announced today hiring Chris Cuomo As far as I’m concerned, any credibility just died

It is about the money for WGN, a flagship Chicago station. They are recognizing the need for less biased reporting, that is all. Hiring Cuomo WTF. What idiot thought that up?? An Eric Sevareid clone would work. God that guy was awful.

I found out about Fredo getting hired by News Nation from Gutfeld's show: ...let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one. Luke 22:35-36 NAV "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves." Matthew 10:16 NASV

I don’t see it working. Para has them pegged. They are so immersed in leftist thinking that they don’t even comprehend their bias. It’s like the joke where one fish says to another "how's the water?" The other fish replies, "what the hell is water?" _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell

I've watched some of their content. It's may possibly be an honest attempt to cut back on opinion and bias, but so far it falls short. Para's examples are convincing to me that the content is and will lean left. But it's not going to be another MSNBC. That's not saying much. They have a long ways to go to purge more bias from their content. An interesting web site that I sometimes check out is Ground News. It's fascinating to me and explains a lot of the partisan divide in the country. If all you watch is CNN, MSNBC and the big three TV networks, it's not just bias. Some stories that I think are news worthy are not even mentioned AT ALL. No coverage or near zero coverage. According to these news outlets, the story never even happened because they don't even report it. They do the same reporting for conservative media. No wonder the country is divided. I've tried watching, and they don't try to cull liberal preconceptions from copy writers or producers. Climate, green new deal, and Jan 6th, Dem versions of deficit spending, are some of many supportive positions in the reporting. ------------------ The plural of anecdote is not data. -Frank Kotsonis

Just bring back Naked News and be done with it. At least it was honest (un)coverage. Those who don't read the newspapers are uninformed, those who do read the newspapers are misinformed. I believe it was Mark Twain.
