Can anyone recommend some good shoe brands to look at that:

Are extra wide
Have stiff soles or construction
Don't look like old man shoes

Was at podiatrist for pain in the balls of my feet and he looked at my shoes (Dr Scholls oxfords) and bent them and told me they have way too much flex and that is transferring force to the balls of my feet. I wear custom made orthotics for high arches which are great but need something stiffer apparently.

My feet are also pretty wide and I hate shoes that crunch my toes into a point.

I've been very happy using slip-on type athletic shoes from Sketchers. Quite a few options as to style and sizes (including Wide widths):

My feet are 4E, and Keen shoes often fit well.

I wear those too, and find them comfortable, but I don't think that they meet PASig's requirement for "stiff soles or construction." They're pretty flexible, which is what he states that he is trying to avoid.

Their other shoes are much more modern looking, but may be too flexible for you. I'm a huge fan of their Beast line, and have 3 pairs of them in different colors.

If so, Allen Edmonds makes a wide range of sizes and styles, from very dressy down to more casual. Expensive, but excellent quality.

Danner has wide offerings.

New Balance (used to have?) has a brand (forgot the name, Dunham?; non-sneakers) that offers wide options.

I may not be correct in saying "stiff soles", I think it's the UPPER that needs to be more stiff?

I tried AE, but their widest shoes were still way too tight for my 4E feet. Some of that is because their shoes tend to be pointed, so the width at the toes was greatly restricted compared to the rest of the foot.

Try Lems shoes (lemsshoes.com). They are specifically for people with wide feet, in particular the forefoot. Super comfortable and durable. My wife and I both wear them.

12 wide here, I like Merrels.

You might want to visit a Redwing Shoe Store. They have all kinds of sizes and styles. Concentrate on the sturdiest models.

Red Wing. Some models are still American made.

You have to try them on before you buy. Your wide foot is different than my flat wide 2x6 plank style foot.
That being said, Keens are the best for my feet.

I also have a wide foot and recently bought a
Pair of wide square toe Ariat “Amos” boots at cavenders. Very comfortable and I get compliments on them.

Hitchcock shoes specializes in wide shoes from different companies.
Propet brand has up to 6E.

Yeah, I’ll second this, in general.

I wore New Balance in EE and 4E for decades. Then my neighbor and I started walking during lunch when Coof-From-Home happened, and he suggested I look at barefoot shoes.

What almost all traditional wide shoes have in common is that they are still not foot-shaped, they are fashion-shaped.

I haven’t tried LEMs, but have since tried Xero, Vivo Barefoot, Feelgrounds, and Splay, and my feet have never felt better (nor have my knees and hips and balance). Dramatically better feeling.

Wide foot here. Danners for work. Doc Martens for out and about. Some of them have wider “footprint”. They will tell you on the website if the are wider or not. I don’t know if they would be stiff enough or not.
