Is an in state move a reason to cancel and resubmit a form 1? Can I just update the physical address with the ATF?

Couldn’t you just not change your DL (add update) until you get the item or stamp, then update the ATFby submitting the 5320.20.

Seems like that way there would be less of a chance of a screw up.

When you go to pick up the item there may be a problem if your current information does not match the form 1. I would discuss this with the class 3 dealer and get his perspective.

It’s two form 1 for SBRs. Same city, just a different street address.

This is what I was advised from my NFA focused FFL.

You’re thinking of a Form 3, which is a transfer. Form 1 is application to build an SBR or suppressor. In Otto’s case, I’m pretty sure SBR, which requires a 5320.20. Suppressor would not.

Oh, same city? Nothing required because it’s within the state. Fed isn’t interested in intra state stuff, only interstate. Engrave with current city and your name or trust and move on with your life.

Thanks Smudge, I was hoping that was the case.

Mike, WRT my license, it never changes from my state of record (Florida). I do everything FFL or ATF related under orders.

form 3 is dealer to dealer, not the case here,

guessing you meant a 4?

and the feds do care about addresses, esp when processing a form, and it has to be mailed,

Yes, form 4. It’s been a long day and I’m tired. Yes, they would like you to update them on moving SBR’s from one residency to another in the same city, sure. Is it legally required? No. A 5320.20 is required when taking an SBR to another state, nothing is required when moving around in your state of residence, be that to the range, or moving across town. If you can post something that proves me wrong, I’ll be happy to know otherwise, but that’s per my FFL who does almost nothing but NFA stuff. I was advised to not do anything to mess with the process because it wasn’t legally required and would likely scuttle my approval.

I don't get this discussion at all. There is no "When you go to pick up the item". There is no reason or obligation at all to notify the ATF in this situation. You might want to do it after the fact (I personally would) but its not required.

ATF said to update my profile online. And gave me a number to call to update the address on the form 1s. I didn’t get as lucky as last time. Submitted 18NOV, haven’t left the submitted queue. The holiday likely doesn’t help.
