Just had my first dinner at Cracker Barrel. My wife's been there a number of times as she grew up in the South. I've been here for 27 years and finally made it.

Great place. Inexpensive, large portions, the food was excellent. I'll be trying them for breakfast one of these days, my wife says it's the place to go.

My wife said she's never had a bad meal at any of the locations she went to. Has anyone?

Not a bad place, not my first choice but they do a good version of southern comfort food that can hit the spot at times.

No. Popular here with the blue collar crowd. The gift shop could be out of the 1950s. Too country for me. I expect to see Junior Samples and the Hee Haw crew when I visit. I despise chain restaurants. It is a step above Waffle House or the gas station takeouts.

Man, around here, it used to be that way, but the portions at the places near me are tiny and the prices don't reflect what you receive.

I don't eat there unless I'm in a group.

They're OK. RHINOWSO's post is a fair assessment. When I was in Arizona I went to one in Glendale (near the big football stadium and Cabela's) fairly often. Currently, the nearest locations are not convenient to me, outside my normal errands, as well as the fact that I'm eating out less often lately. I did have one less than stellar meal in Flagstaff, AZ off I-40. It was some kind of beef (tips, roast, maybe chopped steak) that was edible, but tough.

Wife and I go there on a regular basis. Breakfast mostly but lunch sometimes. Mostly positive experience.

Had to quit the pinto beans as they started resembling something that had been left on the burner til dried, and last time for lunch tried the fried chicken tenders, which resembled some bland tasting thing poured out of a box from the freezer and lightly fried. Pass on that from now on.

It’s got some decent stuff. Breakfast is pretty good. I’d rather do local places, but sometimes you need some turnip greens.

I like their chicken fried chicken. We usually eat there when we are on the road but not when we are at home. The kid likes their food too.

I've been to a few in Arizona. Food isn't that bad. They are anti-gun.

I can't breath in the lobby. It usually stops me from getting any further into the place.
If we can get a seat right away I can deal with the food.

I don’t think I’ve ever Had a bad meal there. I generally only eat there if I’m driving somewhere and it’s a convenient sit down place right off the highway where I know what I’m going to get regardless of location, and I know everyone in the family can find something they like

I always order off the breakfast menu. My wife always orders the meatloaf (unless it’s breakfast time). My kids always eat grits

The country store has old candy and soda that I can’t really find anywhere else (it’s the only place I’ve reliably found peach nehi in northern Virginia)

It’s always too much food. I like taking the biscuits to go. They make a good snack while you’re driving. My wife loves the blackberry jam.

There are certainly better places. I have local diners around me that are mom and pop joints I will always go to first. But like I said, when you’re on the road, it’s a consistent place.

Cracker barrel varies wildly in quality from location to location and sometimes meal to meal. Usually a half decent meal on the cheap but rarely our first option.

The one in my town is always packed. I find it to be overpriced with food that is just ok.

I prefer the locally owned restaurant over the chains.

They used to be a lot better. But their cornbread has always been too dry, and their biscuits suck.

Mrs. Mike does not like chicken and dumplings, going to Crackhead barrel is the only chance I get to eat like a southerner should...

My mom doesn’t make the flat dumplings, rather spoons the dough into the pot and they fluff up from there...it’s delicious.

breakfast only tho,, dinner and lunch have always been mediocre,

and no sausage gravy, that stuff looks like lumpy wallpaper paste
when I can stick a spoon in it upright, and it not fall over the entire time we are eating, I know if it ain't worth eating (it sets up like jello quickly

Decent place here in western, West Virginia. Fast service. Decent portions. I love their farm raised lemon pepper catfish, and sweet baby carrots.

Bunch of chinese-made “Americana” schlock in the “gift shop”. We don’t eat candy so I can’t comment on their assortment.

Most of the ones I have visited had inadequate portions of fairly lame attempts at home style meals. The breakfasts are the most acceptable items on the menu, although their biscuits always give me the strangles for some reason.

Way down the list of places to eat for us, even when traveling.
