All these suggestion to call 911. If the guy were kicking the door, sure, call them so they can come perform CPR on him when they get there. A fella with tools trying to open a garage door? I’m going out the front door, armed, to ask him “what are you doing?” Situation like this leaves enough time to throw some basketball shorts on and grab the Glock off the nightstand. If he’s a service worker or some kind at the wrong address, I don’t need to bother the police if it can be sorted out with a chat. ______________________________________________ Endeavoring to master the art of the grapefruit spoon.

My issue with all of this is that you’re too trusting. Very few competent employees for reputable companies make these kinds of mistakes. The other thing to keep in mind is that the person you’re dealing with may not be the only person working the scam. The guy at the door is simply bait and there may be multiple partners waiting nearby. Call 911. Have them as your backup if necessary. If it’s a legitimate mistake, it’s not your problem, it’s his. You don’t need to take ownership of his problems.

My issue with all of this is that there are apparently members here willing to start a gun battle without having any idea what's really going on. Perhaps many don't understand that this is a two way street of what people honestly believe. You honestly believe somebody may be breaking into your home. What if the tradesman who honestly believes he's at the right address honestly believes you're a bad guy attempting to rob him. If he shoots you first that's legitimate self defense.
Happens all the time. I've done it several times myself. Look at how many times the police themselves end up at the wrong address, and they even have fancy computers showing them exactly where they need to be.
How long does it take the Tucson AZ police to report to a suspicious person call? I'd imagine you could open a window, have a quick conversation, and be in absolutely zero danger before the 911 operator even dispatched the call.
I don't know. I'd feel pretty bad if I called the police on somebody who wasn't doing anything wrong, the stars aligned, and the guy got shot by the police. Just like showing up to the wrong address, it happens. Introducing guns into these situations shouldn't ever be our go to solutions.

Have you dealt with service companies lately? It seems like everyone quit trying after Covid. Most employers have a tale of woe about how hard it is to get good help. As far as not having a visible camera, it has been a long time since I’ve seen anyone pull out anything other than a cell phone to take pictures. In my mind, the highest probability is a dumbshit, sloppy employee. Next is someone looking to break in who wants any east score a no trouble and will make excuses and leave once questioned/confronted (not even necessarily aggressively). Less likely, but still possible is the guy who will take someone opening the door as an invitation to take what he came for violently. This is one reason why many of us carry. I suspect this was the first guy, as the second guy would have made his excuse, got in his car and left. ETA: a1abdj said it more succinctly: >> Introducing guns into these situations shouldn't ever be our go to solutions. By all means have, and be prepared to use it if you need to, but do everything you can to resolve or avoid the situation without anyone else even knowing that a gun is present.

I have a camera right above my garage. It has two way comms. I would be notifying him verbally that he is on camera, I have his license plate, then ask him to explain himself. If he does anything other than figure out he is at the wrong house and leave, police will be on the way. I'm not going out there, but will be prepared if he does decide to come in. ![]() ![]()
