Great. Now I'm doubly curious.

Why did you buy that color shirt?

Because I like it.

Why do we feel the need to try to put more meaning on these things? Most people I know that dye by their hair miscellaneous colors do so just because they like it. It doesn’t affect me in any way, so whatever.

I don’t understand hair color though.

Think of it like folks who paint rooms a different color when they get tired of a certain color

People want to stand out and be different and show their individuality ... simple as that...

I'm not going to judge... I remember back in the early seventies in high school my 'uniform' was a U.S. Military field Jacket and Sun Glasses... one year all the group yearbook photos I was in that is how I looked... then for a while I switch to a hoody, it is part of the reason the FBI came a calling back in the early 90's...
this is a picture of me later while in college....

You never know who might be knocking on the door...

I would never ask a stranger or acquaintance anything like that. A good friend, someone you know or have known for years and know how they will react? Maybe if you're really curious - I wouldn't do it because I don't care to know, but maybe - if you really knew the person and knew how they would take it.

In 1970 upon my return from Korea I had to show my family the military medical records that the white spot (silver dollar size) in front center forehead of dark drown hair had not come from a bottle. Then in 1982 as a police officer the kids on the streets gave me the nickname "skunk" (which did not bother me). Sometimes people would ask and would reply that some paid money to get this done to their hair and mother nature gave it to me naturally for free. Now it is all White and white beard. ..................... drill sgt.

Do whatever you like, either you'll get a phone number and a freaky gal for a weekend or hearty fuck off depending on what ya say.

No right to not being questioned about stuff, if folks want to wear purple hair they want attention, so give them some...

It's weird that people craving attention, would get upset if you ask them about the attention getting device they use, hair, tattoo, piercing, strap on dildo,
not that its a problem if ya feel the need...

Yeah, it's rude. Asking personal motives of strangers is rude in general, and about appearance choice in particular...I'm surprised anyone has to ask whether it's rude.

To put this fact in context...how would you respond to a stranger coming up to you and asking, for example...

"Why did you choose that tie?"

"Why don't you let your hair grow longer?"

"Why are you wearing those shoes?"

"Why do you grow a mustache/beard?"

"Have you thought about a toupee?"

Now, if you've had a couple drinks with an old friend? Fire away.

Out of the blue? To a stranger? ....yeah, you're not only not going to get a relevant answer, you're wide open for a bit of rudeness back atcha. Wink

Think about saying something like, "Hey, I like that tie!"

That puts the ball in their court, the response could be either a simple "thank you," or it could be a good conversation starter, but you have opened a dialog without dropping any negatives.

I don't think I'd ask.

OTOH, I did see a kid one time with a cute hairdo and asked his parents if they minded if I took a picture of it (promised not to show his face)--they said OK. Here it is:

Some people are sensitive about their hair color. Frank Orr was a venerable sports columnist for the Toronto Star. When Harold Ballard, who owned the Maple Leafs, had his hair dyed red, Orr wrote that Ballard’s hair was “prematurely orange”. Smile

Ballard banned Orr from the Leafs’ home arena.

People who frequently change hair color/style, especially odd or unnatural colors may have an unstable sense of self identity which is a sign of various personality disorders that are caused by lack of primary parental attachment and result in impulsive emotionally unstable behavior.

Getting lots of piercings and tats is now an alternative to "cutting" - using physical pain to "feel" and distract from emotional instability. Also a sign of the above personality disorders.

Sometimes, especially with middle aged women, it is an effort to emulate younger people due to insecurity about aging. But in my opinion, if you're 50 and getting visible tattoos that can't be covered by normal clothing just to look "young" you are probably not accomplishing your goal.

I have two nieces who have bizarre hair coloring and have not had their natural hair color for years.
They are both "woke", extreme Leftists, Trump haters, and attention-seeking.
So from my small sample, I'd say the assumption someone with hair like that is freaky would be pretty much right on.

The only way I would bring it up would be in a complimentary manner. I do this from time to time when I see someone with a color I particularly like.

I like people who aren't afraid to try things or be expressive with his or her appearance, and really, it's completely harmless.

If you aren't interested in people who do that, just move along, don't bother the person with negativity or an interrogation about personal choices.

I dyed my hair once, well had my hair dyed.
Gave two flips about the color a couple of cute girls were on the trip with me and we were bored during a stop at a Walmart somewhere in Kansas.
They asked if they could dye my hair. I said sure.
