'Disgusting' piles of trash a fixture outside NYC's first 'green' school, residents say

The real children aren't the students attending that school. The real children are the people who allowed 70 million dollars to be spent on this bizarro world garbage generator. Freakin' unreal.

I guess having a dumpster for their trash does not fit the agenda of a green school. Placing it at the curb and letting someone else deal with the trash is more like their agenda.

When I was in the flooring business bidding commercial work I quickly came to understand that whenever a project was promoted as “green” it meant higher cost for an inferior end product. When you see “green” brought up it’s all about money.

I've heard trash collection in general has suffered under their wonderful socialist mayor de Blasio. He can probably claim it as some kind of accomplishment that there's "less garbage going into the landfills!"

Gotta love how the Greatest City in the World has piles of garbage on their sidewalks and streets.

To the extent that bags of trash are being put on the sidewalk, that's normal in NYC trash collection on the evening before trash pickup day in each neighborhood. The fact that they are putting that many bags out, and doing it every day/night seems a little unusual unless they have daily trash pickup. Whether a 68,000 square foot school should generate that much garbage, green or not green, is debatable. Seems high to me.

I think if I were a neighbor to that school, I would be highly tempted to stealthfully set fire to one of those large trash piles.

They build a new "environmentally compliant" building on a college campus here in Silicon Valley. The reality is:

- Low flow toilets make the restrooms smell like outhouses.
- The HVAC system uses automated blinds on the windows, to raise and lower, also to tilt the angle. The bottom line is that heating comes from either the sun, from computers, or from body heat. It is always cold and stuffy in the morning, hot and stuffy in the afternoon.

I have now had the chance to see the article and pictures. I'll take a WAG that this is probably about the amount of trash that one would normally expect to be generated over several weeks, "green" notwithstanding, but I can't fathom why it is neither being put in cans separated by type of trash, nor picked up.
