Currently looking at the market and need to replace a 2012 Camaro SS that is currently at 116,000 miles. I know I picked a hell of a time to go car shopping but the Camaro is going to need some work and I'm not sure I want to invest anything back into it (clutch, windshield, ABS module, etc).

Contemplating a C7 with the Z51 package and at least the 2LT interior. Plan to use it as a daily driver for a short commute back and forth from work.

Anyone on the board have experience that can give me the good, the bad and the ugly?

My pop has one with the packages you mention. Awesome car. Expensive tires (directional, staggered sizes), oil changes prolly better done at the dealership than the monkeys at a 5min oil change place.

Before you complete the possible purchase it will be in your best interest to contact your insurance agent for cost of insurance coverage... especially if you have ANY dependent children still living at home... a friend was considering a Dodge Charger with a performance package the coverage rate was going to be more than the monthly payment note all because he had a teenage daughter still living at home.......................................Well acording to some of the post following this post I was possibly wrong about the cost on the insurance for the vette...................... drill sgt.

Tires are normally the most expensive maint. item. I've had several but all of mine have been pleasure only so insurance is less. 2LT is the sweet spot for trim levels.

I've got an 04 C5 vert - would not want it as a daily but love it for sunny Sundays.

Wife and I are both seasoned citizens with clean records and no other drivers. Vette replaced a 2013 Chrysler 200 hardtop convertible and the insurance bill went down about half. Surprised me pleasantly. Well under a dollar a day for full coverage with 500,000 liability.

For a daily driven, not tracked C7 Stingray, the all season version of the Michelin Pilot Sport tires make it more comfortable to drive. The regular Pilot Sports are great tires, but on the highway the car is continually looking for a groove to grip. IMO the all season tire still has plenty of grip for stopping, cornering, and occasionally hammering it. We have a ‘19 with 2LT pkg.

I daily drove a C5 Z06 for 3 months before I couldn't take it anymore. LOL.

At one point I also had a Scion tC with that Z06 the the Z06 insurance was cheaper. I was in my early 30s at that time, both were manual transmission vehicles.

Good idea to get the quote. USAA is quoting $40 a month cheaper on the Corvette than the Camaro. Camaro is manual and the Corvette will be an auto.

maddy,

Check out Corvette Forum classifieds. They usually have a lot on their classifieds. However, I must warn you some are asking ridiculous prices right now. Some flipped their brand new C8s for $30k over the price they paid. That pricing game has trickled down to the C7 and even C6. The C5 seems to have lost quite a bit of steam, the interior and overall technology of the C5 is just archaic now.

Tires for the Camaro have not been cheap. She is on her fourth set and they can't be rotated. Same size rim front to back but width is different.

I have a 2017 C7 GS heritage with the 3lt package. I find the car to ride fine on Florida highways, gas mileage is respectable. Have to be careful parking with the front splitter and theres a TSB out for flushing the tranny fluids because of a vibration in the driveline. Otherwise it’s fun to drive, has enough power(wont be racing it). Bought it with 8800 miles on it in January. I plan on replacing the track tires with all season ones, can get dicey when it rains, there are complaints about the factory 19 and 20 inch wheels cracking and theres a law suit going on. Could be because of the run flats or just a wheel defect. I bought wheel insurance just in case

C7 prices are very high.

FIL has a Grand Sport 7MT and he has gotten a number of serious offers for more than what he paid for it new in 5-6 years ago, and it is not a particularly low mile car.

They are fantastic vehicles though, and I prefer front engine placement and proportions to the new mid rear placement.

His has been very reliable with both track and street miles on it.

I think that last point alone is going to keep prices of the C7s high. I respect what the C8 can do. It's an amazing car, but I really prefer the looks, interior layout, and front engine of the C7 to the C8. I'll probably be in the market for a Corvette in the next 5 or so years, and when I am it will be a C6 or C7 over the C8.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

While the C7 is arguably the best of the last front engine Corvettes, and would make a great driver, a C6 or C5 might be better in terms of acquisition cost in this market,

Like you said if you have an SS Camaro tires are already a normal expense, as is insurance.

C7 might appreciate a bit more over time, the 67 Corvettes languished on dealer lots with the anticipation of the new body 68, and yet they are the most sought after of the mid year Corvettes.

Myself prefer the C3, yes the C8, C7 offer a lot more car, but, I'm a product of the Mako Shark era.

It's going to have all the idiosyncrasies of any high performance low slung automobile, and you'll smile whenever you're behind the wheel in spite of them.

I daily drive a 2016 Z51 3LT Laguna Blue coupe that I bought new and love it. I get better life out of my tires than I did my 2012 Camaro SS, and they were less expensive but not much). My wife does not like when I drive in Sport mode, but she says it’s fine when I drive in touring mode. I prefer the feel and sound in sport mode. Gas mileage is decent - running at 21.4 right now, almost all city driving. I ran around 24.x when I did more highway driving before we moved. I have the competition seats, so they can be a little tight depending on your size. I really have nothing bad to say about it. The only trips to the shop since new have been for oil changes. No warranty work has been needed. The auto trans has been fine, mine has not needed the flush due to vibrations mentioned earlier.
