These folks are just lucky they didn't manage an airport.

They only killed the animals.

Both times, a simple phone call would have sufficed.

People are people.

The spectrum of typical human behavior encompasses all, from saintly to evil. You can't say that all people are bad just because some people are bad.

Let's not lose our perspective.

Exactly. But they didn't WANT a phone call. They did exactly what they wanted to do to make sure all the rest of us plebeians are paying attention.

That’s the root basis of Russian culture. It’s toxic, and mentally, and spiritually, ill.

There’s some of it in some of the more toxic Anglo-Saxon subcultures as well.

The world really isn’t like that. Bureaucracy does seem to mostly appeal to the mentally ill, but hiding from the world will not work.

What an infuriating and depressing story. My only hope is that eventually something good can somehow come from all this madness and jackboot thuggery.

This makes me hate the state of New York even more (which I thought was impossible).

These jackasses operate independently of Republican or Democrat political parties.

They have a set of rules set in stone that they will absolutely apply with zero thought about discernment. They are what is known as believers.

I've been around them. They only pick sociopaths to do this job. Even James (Vero8) couldn't stand them and he used their own rules against them.

I've learned a few tricks from Monteen over the years, from using a pre-frozen carcass that was collected off the highway to the animal got "released" with video, even "euthanasia" paperwork and "ashes" from the cremation.

These folks needed to stay off social media. Big brother was watching and they became too happy.

So now it's coming out that this couple had an onlyFans page and the squirrel was just used as a pretext to search the house.

Wouldn't the warrant be required to state that?

Not buying this.
First, it's from TMZ, slightly better than the bathroom wall.
Dept. of Environmental Conservation isn't doing warrants for porn. Maybe, just maybe if it involves bestiality, and that's a stretch.

Not to get into the mundane details of a Search Warrant, YES, the items the police are looking for are spelled out in the warrant, as well as a reasonable belief that the items would still be there at the time of execution.

In this case, there should be something along the lines of "An Illegal Squirrel and Illegal Raccoon" in the Warrant.

(ie- Guy selling dope out of his house on 05 Nov, you go get a Search Warrant, you need to explain how you reasonably believe that drugs are going to be in the house on 06 Nov when you're going to execute the warrant.)

This may be off-topic, but with genuine curiosity I'd like to ask anyway:

We've read about how this couple were treated during the raid, and can be all sorts of PO'd about it. I wonder, though, what would have happened if the couple had not been home? Would the "authorities" simply have gone in and tossed the place, taken the animals, and left a mess? Or is there some requirement that the homeowners (or residents, in the case of renters) be present at the time of a raid?

I ask, simply because I don't know how these things work.

Politicians seem to have forgotten that they work for us, not the other way around.

Typically there's some kind of provision in the warrant for forcing entry if necessary. It's not a very useful order if it can be defeated by somebody simply not being home, or failing to answer the door.

Even if there's more to the story than is being reported, I don't understand euthanizing the animals, though. By all accounts they were healthy and not sick or neglected. We've got a whole list of licensed shelters and rehabilitators who we'd have turned them over to if there was a reason that they couldn't remain in the home.

The story I heard is the squirrel bit one of the thugs on the finger and they euthanized him and the raccoon to do the rabies test.

Still doesn’t minimize the ridiculousness of the raiding of the house.

Not sure if things have changed but I worked for an animal rescue org for a very very brief time awhile back, but back then the only way to test for rabies on an animal was a "head test". Aka, opening up the skull to test the brain for indicators of rabies.

So I don't know if that's still the case or if it can be detected with a blood or other type of test. But that could be their excuse.

Hmm. So was the warrant for pornographic materials and the animals got caught up in it, or was it specifically for the animals, either intentionally or pretextually to look for porn? Sounds like there's a lot more detail that needs to be made public before we'll know the full story on this one.
