I need reccomendation for a trailer hitch bike rack and separate cargo rack. I also am considering a roof cargo rack.

What have you used that you like.

Considering a Yakima road trip bike rack, fitting 4 bikes.

A Curt MFG basket style cargo rack.

Also looking at roof cargo racks.

My favorite bike rack (assumes you have a receiver hitch on your vehicle). Swagman XTC4 They also have a two bike version.

Can't help with the cargo racks.

I have a Yakima hitch rack, they make a variety of them:

I have the Hold Up but it only holds 2 bikes.

For cargo rack, I just went with a cheap Harbor Freight one for $40. Unless you're really using it a lot, I don't see too much value in getting a more expensive one. I use the 27 gallon tote boxes from Home Depot to put stuff in and then on the rack.

Personally I would avoid the roof cargo rack because that's going to kill your mileage.

I have an original Kuat NV.

YES, it's expensive, but absolutely worth the money. It's solid as a rock while mounted. It has an integrated clamp (Trail Doc) so that you can work on your bike at the trail, if necessary. It's really easy to use. It's easy to hook up the bikes, and it's easy to tilt down to access your tailgate while loaded. It comes with an integrated cable lock that will at least keep your bikes secure from a snatch-and-grab at the gas station or restaurant, though I wouldn't trust it for overnight at a hotel.

I originally bought the 2-bike model. If you buy the 2" receiver size, that is expandable to 4 bikes with an add-on kit. Once the kids learned to ride, I bought the kit.

The Trail Doc integrated work stand is not a gimmick either. I've done a few minor repairs with it, and I'm confident that it would serve as a good stand for almost any bike repair.

They are now selling the NV 2.0, and based on what I have read, the upgrades make a great rack even better.

It's definitely worth the money, and absolutely worth a search on Craigslist to see if you can snag a used one.

1Up-USA is the best trailer hitch mount bike rack you can buy. Hands down better than Yakima, etc. IMO. plus, it’s USA made. I swear to you it takes less than 5 seconds to put/take the bike on or off. Rock solid when it’s on also. They make a roof mount version also.

I have a Yakima 4 bike hitch rack and that thing is solid. Carries 4 Nicely. I found that with extended highway time with cruise set about 80 the clamps tend to move on the tubes a little.
I made spaced out of PVC pipe and put between each clamp and no more issue.

Don’t have a hitch mounted cargo carrier.

I do have a rooftop cargo carrier the shell/pod style. Not sure if that is what you mean by rack or if you are wanting a rooftop basket type.
The carrier I have is a Sport Rack brand. This is Thule’s economy line. Textured black plastic not the super slick gloss look of Thule. Also the hardware is nowhere near as nice. While it is rock solid it does take a bit more work to clamp them to the crossbars and only opens from one side.
Though I paid $50 brand new off Craigslist and it has been all over the country, weathered storms, even smashed into the garage door frame when a buddy borrowed it. The dent just popped right out.
If I replace it and can’t find one on Craigslist cheaply. I would make no qualms paying the $400 the Thule’s cost new.
We use the heck out of it and add so much space plus with skis and the like no water inside the vehicle and the beach cuts down on sand inside the vehicle.

I've never heard of "V1Up-USA", but will note that my fanatic biker brother had his Thule peel off on the freeway with 2 bikes on it. Only through the grace of god did no one hit anything and crash. He's still using it which I think means it was operator error, not a design issue.

But he's cheap too, so there is that:-)

Yakima has absolutely excellent customer service and warranty replacement service, so I am a dedicated customer, even though I still actually have some old Thule hardware I am still using too.

I have a hitch rack from Saris.

Broke the handle to swing the rack out of the way. No questions asked and customer service was great. Bikes go on/off super easy.

I’ve used the devil out of a Thule roof top box. It is rock solid piece of equipment.

I have a NV 2 and absolutely love it. Two bike rack but you can add a second set.
