Lot of great recommendations! I miss SD, I lived there '07-'09 for college.

Another place to spend a few minutes hiking around with nice beach views is Sunset Cliffs. Sometimes I would just cruise through the area at sunset, but you can park and fart around, too.

I liked going to La Jolla, nice area. You might see some sea lions on a beach there...forget which one. I went once and a baby kept trying to swim out to sea and mom would swim out and roll it back on shore. Was funny to watch. ETA: La Jolla Cove.

Stone Brewery was fun when I took the tour 8 years ago. The guide was knowledgable and engaging and he really seemed to enjoy giving the tour. You were able to get 2 samples at the end of the tour, but the guide said, with a wink, that it was up to us to keep track. I think I had 6 or 7. As long as you didn't get sloppy, they were happy to serve you. Not sure if it's still like that or not, but the beer is good anyway. Should be readily available in any grocery and liquor store in the area, as well.

Maybe check out Mavericks Beach Club. Appears to have just opened a few months ago.

Harbor boat trip, Rock Bottom Brewery,for great ribs,see the beach where Seals train by Coronado, visit a winery, lots to do there. And you probably won't step in poop like in SF.

"Stone Enjoy by...." is my all time favorite IPA. Hit and miss finding it here in MN, sadly it's been a while.

That's pretty cool, never heard of it. We get a pretty good Stone selection up here in Ventura County (~200 miles north of SD) looks like they make them for holidays...and 4/20. Drinking Delicious IPA right now, sure is good.

It can a little crazy to park in La Jolla, but felt it was comparable to most cities

Thought of another random thing, The Shout House. Went once and it was fun, drink and listen to dueling pianos.

Shhhhhhh, I'm going to share my super secret parking place in La Jolla with you...

Across the street from the Cave Store (1325 Coast Blvd, La Jolla, CA 92037) is an underground "pay" parking lot. Except on the 4th of July and Labor Day ~ sometimes Memorial Day if it's hot, there always seems to be parking there.

Also, in front of the Cave Store are a couple of street spots and there are a few parking spots on a small dirt lot under some trees in front of the Cave Store. From October until Memorial Day, I can usually find an open spot there. You need to be looking for the street and dirt spots as you drive down the hill because it's a one way street and the pay lot's driveway comes first.

I don't have an address for the underground parking spot, but Google the Cave Store's address (1325 Coast Blvd, La Jolla, CA 92037) and know its across the street and just before their building.

If you haven't been to the Cave Store, you should visit but take a flashlight with you to examine the various colors of the rocks in the cave and tunnel. Also, in the rear of the cave is a smaller cave that is large enough for 3 or 4 people. Can be romantic for you and your girlfriend

but there is usually a small pool of water from that last high tide and sometimes a crab will be waiting for the next high tide.

In the early 1900s the owner of the house hired two Railroad workers to dig a tunnel "with hand tools" from his basement to the back of one of the 8 ocean caves along the bluffs. The cave they dug to was named "Sunny Jim" by Frank Baum, the author of "The Wizard of Oz." As you descend then ascend the 130 wooden stairs stop and look at the tool marks and imagine what that must have been like.

Yeah. Thst’s parking for the Crab Catcher restaurant and the shops on that corner. I rarely parked there, because our company owned a building in the village not far from there, but I ate lunch at the Crab Catcher dozens of times. There was a Charthouse Restaurant back there too, years ago.

I was asked many times if I was the owner of the Cave Store who is also a James Allen, or was, I think.

While you are one-upping your neighbors, you can enjoy the incomparable joy of alone knowing that the meter maids in La Jolla are all from the witness protection program, quite a few of them anyway.

Everyone thnks that when a mob hitman rats out his buddies in exchange for witness protection, they give him a new name, a cheap suit and bad haircut, and send him off to sit on his ass in Miami, or Omaha, or Seattle or something.

In ~15 years of close observation, I figured out that they were actually exiled to La Jolla and employed as meter maids. It saves the city a few bucks, and increases the revenue.

When I told my buddy, an assistant US Attorney in Vegas at the time, I had figured it out, he got real serious and wanted to know about it. When I told him my discovery, he laughed, but didn’t say I was wrong.

Another detail about parking in La Jolla is that it was the inspiration for Rubik’s Cube, in that one car has to move before another can be moved into that spot. There is only one open spot in the Village. A guy drinking coffee for years at Pannekin observed this, and came up with it.
