Say you see an image and want to ID what it is, what movie it is, who the person pictured is, is there a way to search for this kind of info?

If so, step by step would be nice...

I’ve never used this, but Google has an Image Search on their page. Just copy and paste the image in it.

Google Image Search

.

Yep, Google Image. You can search by image URL, or upload from your computer.

Did you grab the address from google image search or from the actual website where the pic is hosted?

I'd look at the URL and see if the name is included. Like this one, eg: "captain-cockatoo"

OP - show us the image. The sleuths will probably identify it in a matter of minutes! Whenever somebody asks if anyone remembers some obscure movie from 30 years ago even with scant details somebody always figures it out.

Just search "reverse image search", several websites to do it on.

Generally reverse image search... upload the photo from your computer, phone etc, and it will show you other places/websites on the net that photo is hosted. Could be one, could be thousands. You still have to visit those site and see if they know the answer you're after.

However, it doesn't always find what you are looking for, and as Fundman states, just post it here and someone will identify it for you.

Read this thread for an amazing SigForum find for me:
