gpbst3Recommended a non Weber gas grill
Im looking to replace my 7 yr old Weber spirit (propane) grill. The cabinet is completely rusted out. The door fell off last night and one post is about to collapse. Im not happy. Its out of warranty so no help there.
The grill is in decent shape otherwise.
I want to see what other grills are out there. Requirements are 3 burners, stainless grill grates and $700 max.
Any recommendations?

ETA: Aren't the Spirits warrantied for ten years?

joatmonvPossibly Char Broil series?
Brother has one and it's holding up well.

BeancookerNext time I need a grill, I’ll be upgrading to a Rec Tec. It’s incredibly versatile. You can smoke meats, or truly grill as it gets up to 500°.

kaleiI bought my Weber Silver Gensis in May 0f 2000.
Have replaced the grates with cast iron ones, also on my 3rd set of flavor bars, still using the original starter.

frayedendsCheck out the Napoleon Rogue series of grills. They are trying to compete with Weber with this lower priced series. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet but my next gasser will be one.
These go to eleven.

NavyGuyThe sub $700 Webers are made in China as are virtually all gas grills in that price range. Even the much touted Napoleon Rogue come from China. I think in that price range the Weber is still the best option. If you can step up the the Weber Genesis series you'll get a much more durable unit. Weber at least are pretty good at covering defects under warranty.

bigeinkcmoI would call Weber and politely discuss the situation with them. They sent me a new set of stainless grates out of warranty. You might find they'll try to make you happy if you are nice about it. I didn't ask them to work me any favors...they did it on their own. I just felt the grates should have lasted longer and they agreed.

Before you buy something, call Weber and see what they do for you. I've heard them going way out of their way for warranty stuff in the past, including shit that's out of warranty.

I have a Kenmore Elite of that era. It was made by Weber. It's over 20 years old. Every 7 years or so I replace the cast iron burners because some of the holes get bigger, causing hot spots. The original cabinet is sturdy, thick and still in good shape. The flavor bars are also stainless, sturdy, thick and still in good shape. The original porcelain coated cast iron grates are still good and rust-free. Twice a year I take out the burners, flavorizer bars and clean out the grease. I do keep it covered when not in use.
To the OP: I think you could find a newer Weber Genesis on Craigslist for a couple of hundred.

bubbatimeI’m on the classifieds daily and you can find a $800-$1000 Webber genesis grill, almost new, for $150-$200 several times a month. Fantastically durable grills, 100% rebuildable with a wonderful parts network.
The price of gently used Webber genesis is a no brainer. The other guy eats the depreciation and leaves you with a grill that you can use heavily for the next 20 years with minimal problems.

45_AutoCheck out Broil King Grills. All made in North America, U.S.A. and Canada I believe. They are moderately priced and built very good. The Baron 420 is probably the nicest one at around $550 ish.

Like this one listed as a moving sale, with 3 tanks included, for $250 on Facebook Marketplace?
Facebook link There is a big verity of models, Genesis II, II-E. etc. How does one know which are the good ones.
I also saw one called a "Webber Genesis" with a rusted out cabinet.

We are trying a Broil Mate grill. Advertised as made in North America; Dickson TN., Huntington IN, and Waterloo ON. Was not even half of $700. Something to look into.

john crusherI have a Charbroil Commercial tru-infrared and this year (4) I replaced the cooking grids.
I grill/fry/smoke on it 4-6 days a week in nice weather and 2-4 during the dead of winter.
I did bacon and eggs on it this a.m. (with Hash browns of course !)
I has been a very good grill for me and has held up very well so far.
I killed a Weber Spirit in 2 years with the pace I grill at then got this one.

Skins2881No suggestions for you, just sorry for your bad luck. My first genesis lasted me 20 years (no repairs except ignitor, maybe grates)? It needed a $1 bolt & nut from Fastenal, but I opted for a shiny new thing instead.
My current one 8-9 years in has had replacement flavorizor bars/ignitor (my expense), and grates (weber's expense).
I use it 3 times a week and it's never seen a cover.
