I'm doing my 35 hours of education through Syracuse University, I just started. I assume we have some folks who are PMP certified here.

This is the most current edition of the PMBOK but the reviews on it are horrible. The complaints aren't about the content but they're about the efforts to prevent copying of the book. While I realize they're trying to prevent people from passing out copies, reviewers are saying it's distracting from the content. Does anyone have this edition and can you share your thoughts?

I've been told by a friend that this book is excellent in helping prepare for the exam itself:

I will have until mid-September to complete the 35 hours and until mid-December to take the PMP exam. I've heard the exam isn't necessarily difficult as it is more very detail oriented in the way they phrase the questions. My goal is to pass the exam the first time since Syracuse is paying for the course and the first exam. If I have to take the exam again, that's out of pocket for me.

Any suggestions based on your experience?

Oh yeah, I'm also taking 2 courses this quarter towards my MBA (management consulting & statistics) and working full-time. Big Grin

First suggestion...Join PMI now. Doing so entitles you to a copy of the PMBOK and a reduction in the cost of the PMP exam. There are a few online prep classes for the exam that are rather good, but I'll have to go back and dig a bit to find them.

I get the first exam free but I'm going to join. Sure hope I don't have to take it a second time. Big Grin

Figure joining would be a good resource for knowledge and I'll get a copy of the PMBOK.

You should also realize the test changed this year. I don't know what those changes entail. I am saying that those who haven't very recently passed (pre 2018 PMPs) will likely have had different experiences than those testing now.

Joining PMI will get you a free PMBOK digital version.

Good luck. Don't underestimate the material/test.

I did it in 2015. Used the 5th edition of this book:

Andy Crowe
The PMP Exam: How to Pass on Your First Try, Sixth Edition
6th Edition
ISBN-13: 978-0990907473, ISBN-10: 0990907473

Went through the Velociteach bootcamp.

Tested and passed on 29th day from starting the process.

PMP certification is on my radar. I’m a PM and have been for several years.

Many of the comments on the first Amazon link in your original post were negative, regarding the readability of the book.

One comment indicated that a legible edition is actually available:

What's your plan for PMP certification?
