I started my foray into the dark, seedy world of CCW back in 1995. At 21, I had purchased my prized possession, a NIB 228. At the time I was a broke college student, so it was probably about ten paychecks worth. I bought a paddle holster, because that’s what they had on hand. What a piece of crap.

As time went on, I went through various phases of guns and holsters. Nothing seemed to quite work. IWB, OWB.

Then I moved onto another platform. A 1911 IWB. It was actually quite comfortable. But a very heavy rig, and needed a belt.

I usually wear gym shorts, so I moved onto another platform. A single stack 9mm subcompact in the form of a Springfield XDs. I then discovered Remora holsters, and I became a true convert. A holster that works in gym shorts, that is almost unnoticeable. And so, so easy to carry.

Then I walked into my LGS, and they had a sale on Ruger LCP2’s for $250. I left the store with that in my pocket. A true pocket pistol that is as easy to carry as a cellphone, but it’s only a .380.

So the last 4 or 5 months, our country has changed. I started carrying my son’s G17, but it’s his pistol. So I basically went reverse through my “cache” back towards carrying the 228.

The 228 has become my EDC in a OWB leather holster.

So, to hell and back, you say?
