Last Monday, my constant companion, Sparky, had to be “put down”. He was a good boy.

He suffered from Addison’s disease which required regular, expensive medication to sustain his life. A few days afterwards, a new shipment of his medication arrived in the mail from Chewy.com. My wife called to cancel any outstanding orders of medication, and explained that Sparky died. The Chewy representative expressed her condolences, refunded hundreds of dollars for Sparky’s medications and asked us to please donate the meds to needy dogs. I dropped the meds off at our local animal shelter.

Two days later, a bouquet of flowers and a condolence card from Chewy.com arrived at our doorstep. Wow. I never expected such kindness from a corporation in this day and age.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! What a Ride! ~Hunter S. Thompson

Wow.

My wife buys from Chewy all the time. Has been very pleased with them. They occasionally get something wrong, but they always make it right.

Condolences on the loss of your buddy Frown

What a distinguished fellow! My condolences.

And Kudos to Chewy, that was very thoughtful and, as you say, unexpected.

The girlfriend had a cat die a few months back.
She called in to chewy to have him removed from her pet listing on there.
A couple days later a bouquet of flowers arrived at the house from chewy with a card expressing their condolences.

This is where my signature goes.

I buy some cat stuff from Chewy. And they regularly send me $10 off coupons. Good prices and service. After reading these posts, I will check Chewy before Amazon for cat stuff.

That does sound like caring is built into the corporate values and lived out.

I’m willing to bet the company allows its corporate employees to bring their pets to work. I heard is a pet pharma company doing this.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." So sorry for the loss of your Sparky. Frown

Your story makes me glad that I'm on auto renewal for my kitties' food with Chewy.com. That is a wonderful display of compassion and customer service.

All they needed to do was take back and refund the now-unneeded Frown meds. (I assume they are returnable?) That is far beyond the call of duty. Smile

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I've been down that road recently myself.

How refreshing to hear about stellar customer service. That they have the medications donated to a shelter instead of returning and disposing of them is only that much better. I haven't presumably done business with them, I'll change that tomorrow.

We have been Chewy customers for a while now and are always both impressed and satisfied with their service and products.

Chewy is probably the best of all the businesses we deal with for ourselves and our doggie. They get it right and get it to us quickly.

My condolences for your loss. I hope Sparky had a long and full life from the care you were willing to give him. Our Bear also have Addison. It is a very expensive medical bill for large dogs. Our vet were very happy we decided to keep Bear when he was diagnosed. Most owners do not per our vet.

I had the exact same experience when my beloved Aussie passed in 2018. Refunded my entire last order and only asked that I donate all unused products to my local shelter. Also got the flowers a few days later. This was one week before Christmas and was a total shock. I now have two new Aussies and guess who I order all my supplies from. Yep, chewy for me. A rare breed in todays world.

Sorry to hear Sparky passed on. Our furball has bone cancer and doesn't have much time.

Very impressive total response from Chewy too.

Agreed. Chewy is about as good as they come when it comes to customer service. I’ve got two or three examples of their service. Most recently, there was a recall on my brand of dog food products which I buy through Chewy. 1) They immediately notified me of the recall and 2) They gave me a refund on anything I purchased within the last 60 days which came too appx $250.

And my condolences regarding Sparky.
