I tried Lightworks, too many bells and whistles.

All I want to do is trim to length and export optimized for YouTube.

Free would be good. Online/Cloud would be bad (ie Might-go-soft Clipchamp)

Suggestions?

I use the free version of Devinci resolve found here.

It's a lot for me, more than I'll ever learn to use but I edit gaming videos to post on youtube. I can't make use of everything it offers but I just watch a youtube video explaining what I want to do and I get by.

I just need the basics for video editing myself. Have had the best success with iMovie. Found it simple to use, with a relatively brief learning curve.

I use DaVinci Resolve, but it's way too powerful of a tool for beginners, and if you're not familiar at all with video editing, it can be very overwhelming. It took me about 6 months of continuous usage to feel comfortable using it.

iMovie is your best bet for simple editing, but I don't know if Windows has a their own simple movie editing tool or not.

I just asked my 13 year old son and he recommends Filmora 9. It's supposed to be ideal for beginner video editors. You might want to give that a shot if you aren't a Mac user.

Here's a tutorial.

I'll look around for others for you.

I use Camtasia. It’s not free but it’s really simple to use.

Oh, and there's another one called Shotcut which is also for beginners.

You can do some editing of video on an iPhone and presume Android before uploading to utoob if that's the source without adding an editor.

It's basic stuff, you can edit the length from both ends of the video, apply filters, sound etc, just bring up the video, tap edit then well, edit.

Heres a video on trimming video length on an iPhone:

This video of my son in law removing the roots from the ground after we took out an old Live oak from the yard, original was over a minute long, edited it and rotated from landscape, you have to do that before uploading or the video will be displayed improperly, youtoob removed the rotate feature from their video editing section of your videos.

Divinci is free and easy to figure out.

I use both Divinci and Adobe's suite of Premiere Pro & After Effects (with occasional use of Audition when the sound needs heavy editing). I do often find myself using Divinci more and more, I paid for the full rights version a few years ago because I was using it for commercial use.

I tried a couple of the suggestions here, and it looks like Shotcut is going to work for me.

Thanks!
