HOUSTON — A customer at Ranchito Taqueria shot and killed a man who robbed the restaurant in southwest Houston late Thursday night, according to the Houston Police Department.
The incident was caught on surveillance video.
Houston police also released surveillance photos of the customer who shot the robber in the video. Investigators said he is wanted for questioning for his role in the shooting. He has not been identified and is not charged at this time.
A photo of his 1970s or 80s model pickup truck with no bed was also released
Workers at the restaurant were pretty shaken up about the incident. The restaurant said they will reopen around 7 a.m.
This happened just before 11:30 p.m. at the restaurant on S. Gessner near Bellaire Boulevard.
Houston police said an armed man in a mask came inside the restaurant, demanding money and wallets from customers. However, as he was leaving, one of those customers shot the suspect.
The shooter collected the stolen money from the robber and returned it to the other patrons, police said.
Then the rest of the people in the restaurant left the scene before the police arrived.
None of the other people in the restaurant were injured during the incident.
Investigators said the suspect ended up not having a real gun.
“The robbery suspect he came into the store and was wearing masks and gloves,” HPD Lt. Wilkens said. “He had a plastic pistol possibly an aero soft or possibly a little BB pistol.”
The surveillance video shows the shooting going down. It shows customers, witnesses, and the shooter leaving the scene right after the shooting.
Investigators are asking the shooter and the victims who left the scene to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 to provide statements regarding the incident.

To keep accurate stats, they have find out if he drove a GM or Ford truck.

Flash-LBMaybe they want to know why the customer didn't just shoot the gun out of the robber's hand?

No one should be surprised that the police want to speak with him. First things first: the police want to find out if he is a felon in possession of a firearm. The fact that he left before police arrived arouses the suspicion of the police, of course.
And everyone else leaving, too, yeah that's not sketchy at all. Isn't that what you would do if you were involved in such an incident? Skedaddle before the cops show up? Sure

Slippery PeteShouldn't be too hard to find that fella. Big red truck.
They told me not to be the hero in a robbery a hundred years ago in my TX CHL class. Unless someone else was about to get Bodied (trying out the kids slang.) I reserved the right to make my own decisions of course, and think this guy kept it between the lines. Point a gun at me or others in a store and my assumption is you mean it.
Plastic pistol, classic. Dumbass. Dropped one of the bills too without knowing it. Probably better off without him.

Lawful use of firearem is a great TX law, but I don't think it applies in either link:
First link was El Cajon, California. In other words, off-topic as California's laws are wildly different than TX.
Second link was a customer executed by a thief. Customer's family sued thief and store.

sig2392You still need a lawyer, you still have to show up and defend.
Not cheap.
Not good for your job and he may have friends and family that want a piece of you.

A guy I know said 20k for representation. Someone mentioned above to not be a hero but once they take my stuff I’m not sitting idle. If we all sit idle thieves would take over society. Kudos to this guy who put him down.
What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

whanson_wiMaybe they want to identify the shooter so they can give him a new truck.

I would like to apologize to anyone I have *not* offended. Please be patient. I will get to you shortly.

I don't know about Texas, but Michigan currently has a Stand Your Ground law that also prohibits survivors or anybody else from suing anybody who legitimately defended themselves with lethal force if such defense falls under the SYG law.
But...
quote:
However, as [the suspect] was leaving, one of those customers shot [him].
Arguably, at this point, the suspect was no longer a threat. So, in Michigan, at least, the guy who shot him
could be on shaky legal ground.
I'm gonna go with "hope they can't identify him."
