ZSMICHAELNortheast, a potential storm Wed/Thurs
Good to hear. Navigating with a boot in snow is not fun.

Steve in PAMeh.....every time they clamor about us getting dumped on, we get nothing.
But, in case they are right.....I'll be off from work (LE), using up some of my last vacation/holidays before the end of the year!

petrThe National Weather Service put us under a winter weather warning early this morning with the potential of 20-24".

smlsigWe’re suppose to get quite an ice storm in the next 48 hours.
Started up the generator and got some non ethanol fuel for it. Had to wait in line as I guess I’m not the only one thinking like that..

kx90They're (NWS) saying 12"+ with a coating of ice and winds down here (lower Bucks). EPAWA was saying the same thing this morning. Joy. Still haven't gotten around to getting a generator.

vthokyMy company decided this afternoon to shut down for tomorrow. That's quite a surprise, as we
never do that. Well, we've shut down early once that I can remember in 20 years there.
Anyway, I've got groceries and dog food. As long as the utilities hold up, I'm quite content to stay home tomorrow.

petrModels were shifting things north and west. We are still in 12-20" but the same models are currently running things back east. We will know when it's done precipitating on Thursday.

Oat_Action_ManI hope we get a lot, honestly. They already cancelled school tomorrow (lol) and moved us online for the last two days of the week before Xmas break, so I am perfectly happy to get socked with snow.

I went to college in the HEAVY snow belt{lake effect snow}. We had thirty inches at a time and never closed. The Profs sometimes had trouble getting to campus.

vthokyHow're you doing up there, petr?
God bless America. December 16, 2020, 02:57 PM
petrIt started snowing around 1 pm. So far so good as it is light and the winds didn't pick up too bad as of yet. The worst is yet to come later this evening. Still unsure of how much we will get, as it depends on if it changes to sleet and for how long. So far we got about 2" though.
How about you down there? A lot of ice or did you get snow?
December 16, 2020, 03:09 PM
vthokyAll was dry here at 6am, then the sleet started. By 8am the yard was slick (quick trip down to the mailbox). By noon the sidewalk and steps were covered, and the neighbors' roofs where white.
Things have been pretty calm since, with the roads simply wet -- still relatively warm ground underneath, I assume.
Right now it's just 33° and the precipitation has stopped.
I see that our illustrious governor has issued a state of emergency -- I'm sure the weather is worse on his end of the state. Out here in the mountains it's no big deal so far.

WaterburyBobEstimates are 12"-20" for us now. My wife retired and I'm working from home due to the Chinese virus, so there won't be any need to go anywhere.

ffemt44Just started here in southwest CT. Calling for 12-18 with local banding up to 30”.
So I go to start the snowblower and the motor was seized. Immediate trip to buy a new one.
December 16, 2020, 05:31 PM
WaterburyBobI heard this was coming on Sunday so I got the snowblower out, put gas in it, checked everything out and fired it up.
21-year old John Deere started right up. I'm all set for when I go out to clean up. Probably not until tomorrow evening.

petrI just cleaned up about 6-8 inches of light powdery snow. The tractor performed great but the shovel was like an old man was operating it... Still snowing with sleet on the way. Supposed to go through the night as such clear until 7 am they say.

I don't have to say this, but be careful of your back and take breaks!

petrThank you. I did and am now relaxing smoking a cigar listening to the quiet. Wind started to pick up a bit though.
