Back in my youth, I didn't drink much beer until introduced to Olympia in '78 while serving Uncle Sam. In college, it was either Olympia or Hamm's though Tuborg Gold was a treat when found. Fast forward I grab Hamm's often, occasionally National Bohemian (like when rooting for the Orioles), and various Oktoberfest brews in season.

Since we're also talking about what we drank back in the good old days.... I favored Molson's shorties. Haven't had any in decades. If i were to come across some I would no doubt buy. ^^Classics, Hamden! I plan to make a stop soon at the local specialty shop that at times has Hamm's in stock and get a couple of six packs.

Page late and a dollar short |
At 16 circa 1968 I worked at a Mobil gas station just down the street. I was the youngest there, the rest of the workers were real late teens to early twenties. In there was a Coke machine that dispensed 12 oz. cans. Add to that one co-worker that would buy only Hamms. So one slot of the machine had a piece of cardboard over one button saying “Out Of Order” which was code for the Hamms slot. Put in a quarter, get a beer. Anyway, one night I’m the only one inside, other guy was on a tow truck run. Guy comes in to pay for his gas. Decided he wants a pop, drops in a quarter and hits the Coke button. Oops! Out drops a Hamms! Seems whoever loaded the machine got sidetracked and put some Hamms in the Coke slot. The guy just stood there looking at it. Looked at me and made a remark in the line of “not good”. First thing I thought was “Cop!” I stammered something like an apology and offering a refund. Much to my relied he said “This looks good.”, pops the pull tab and starts drinking it! That was a relief! After he left I checked the slots, Coke slot had a couple more still in there. Changed them out real quick! -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. Washing machine whisperer |
In HS we drank Busch and then Miller High Life. Drinking age was 18 so we never had any issues getting beer from about the time we were 15 or so. In college it was Buckhorn, Huber or just generic BEER. We could get the latter for 4 bucks a cse so if 4 of us each threw in a buck, we could get a beer buzz on. As a young adult, I moved up to the Michelob. Today I drink mostly IPA's but I do enjoy a lager on a hot summer day. Nowadays, I'm mostly a one and done guy. __________________________ Writing the next chapter that I've been looking forward to.

When I was young, we drank Bud and Bush mostly. I thought I was king when I had a Michelob. My kids raved about PBR! Dollar draft night and PBR! They finally talked me into one, and I said get that shit out of my mouth! An old farmer I knew used to drink Genesee. He’d throw a couple in the tool box in his tractor, and drink them while working the fields. He told me one time the reason he likes Genesee, was because he doesn’t have to share! If you ever get close to VT, and see Switchback on tap, I’d recommend giving it a try. It’s not an IPA, not a light beer. The brewmaster wanted a beer everyone enjoyed at parties, games, and get togethers. He knocked it out of the park!
