Everybody likes to say that whoever calls first is likely to be believed the most. I take from this that the perpetrators called in first. Why didn't the victims? There is no indication that they did, just the interview with the police after the fact. Had it not been for the surveillance video, the perps' account would have been at least somewhat plausible. If you have to shoot somebody, call it in right away. (After it is safe.)
