As Extraordinary as Everyone Else ![]() |
Good afternoon fellow SF members. Since there has been several watch posts on here over the last few months my interest in wristwatches has been piqued. I am reaching out to you today in the hopes that you can shed some light on perhaps one of my most (personally) valuable items that I own. Not that it is valuable because I actually don’t know but more about that in a bit. Now for the reason it is personally valuable to me. My Dad passed away from cancer when I was only 12 years old and this watch is only one of two things that I have that belonged to him. Recently I asked my 90 year old Mother if she could tell me anything about the watch and she told me the following: “I married your father in 1954 when we were both 24 years old. He was in the Army (a Sergeant) and was shortly transferred to France. As you can imagine I was very sad but I saved up my money from working in the dress shop and bought a round trip airline flight to surprise him. He was so delighted to see me that we rented a car and drove all around, falling in love with the country (both my parents were Italian). We decided for me to stay in France and I cashed in the return portion of the flight for $400. I took that money and went to the PX and bought that watch for him and he wore it ever since...” So as you can see it is quite sentimental to me. I tried to find out more about it but all I could find is that the company was bought by the Swatch Group late last century. So if anyone has any more leads on this watch please let me know. I recently had it serviced by my Rolex AD and is working fine. Thanks! ![]() ![]() ![]() ------------------ Eddie Our Founding Fathers were men who understood that the right thing is not necessarily the written thing. -kkina

Looks like a quality old watch, but you already knew that! Sometimes I'm not much help. _________________________________________________ "Once abolish the God, and the Government becomes the God." --- G.K. Chesterton

Can't help you with any information on your watch, but I can post my own Dad's wedding gift from my mother. It's engraved on the back 1954, although best info I have shows it to be made @ 51 ~ 52. ![]() I had my local mechanic give it a full service recently. Runs like it was new now. It's a bumper.

Fantastic story! You should cherish it forever. NEVER have them re-dial it, paint it or polish it in any way. Keep it original. Congrats! Good on you for asking Mom about it before it was too late. ![]()
