My last portable jump starter went belly-up a few years ago, and I've been meaning to replace it, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I intend to correct that shortly.

What do you recommend?

My last one was an old school chunky Stanley FatMax. But I'm seeing quite a few smaller and lighter lithium-ion options nowadays. Seems like one of those would be better, and last longer, right?

(I don't need a built-in compressor, since I already have a standalone portable air compressor.)

These are the two I have. The SANROCK is a tad bit more powerful AND less expensive with a 30% off coupon (be sure to click it, shown just under the price). The TOPVISION has a 10% off coupon ...

I went with NOCO GB40 and I am extremely happy. My FiL turned me on to the NOCO after (don't remember brand) bit the dust at least 5x the size maybe bigger. The jump is quick (instant) no cranking. Paid 99.00 on Amazon.

Also have a NOCO GB40.

I've used it a few times to jump start a Coworkers 100% dead battery and started right up instantly.
Made in Malaysia.

I opted to just replace the battery in my old one.
Cost like $20. Yeah it is a little bigger than these new contraptions.

I have a DieHard booster pack that I got from ACE hardware, that thing has been great!

Jumped my 4.0l Pathfinder from a cold dead battery, then my kids Elantra from a cold dead battery, on the same charge (both were sitting unused for too long over last winter, and the keyless remotes killed the batteries dead)

Barely bigger than a cell phone, LiON, and for around $80? I can't recommend it enough!

I've fallen in love with Project Farm. Man, that guy is the best. And the Audew was the one I bought after my truck let me down last time.

I’ve had several, but the NOCO GB40 is my favorite.

I’m usually a NOCO guy but after watching Project Farm as listed above I bought Audew chargers for all the drivers in my family for Christmas. A few of them have already used them and said they were easy and worked great.

I purchased a couple of the Audew this past Christmas and like them a lot. I used mine on a Kubota tractor a couple of times already...easy, worked like a charm, and only used about 2% of the 100% charge each time.

Depends on what you are looking for.

If you want one with a pant load of power, consider a Jump 'n Carry. They can start a few Kenworths on a single charge.

If you want one with a flashlight, USB ports, AM/FM radio, compressor, etc... I have no idea.

Neither.

Enough to jump a standard personal vehicle. And a USB port for use as a backup power bank would be handy, but I don't need any gadgets like radios or compressors.

Smallish in size would be preferable.

I have the Noco GB70 and I'm very happy with it. It's double the power of the GB40, bought it at home depot on a rare sale for $165. Normal price is closer to $200.

Another NOCO GB40 fan here. They go on sale occasionally on Amazon. The accessory case for another $16 is worth it to me. Keeps it together in a sturdy package.

NOCO GB70 here. I've used it a few times on other people's vehicles and it's worked great so far.

I have two of these and they work great. No need to spend a fortune on one of these as most of them have way more power than the old/large gel style that people have been using for years. They hold a charge for a long time and will start 20 dead cars in a row before needing to be recharged. It's also nice to be able to see what the charge level is at the touch of a button and it comes with a nice compact case. It has USB ports and also comes with tons of different adaptors that I actually threw away because I use it specifically to jump dead batteries.
