Do yall have any experience with higher end items like Montana X-treme or high end jags?

Is it worth it? None of my firearms or precision or long range.

I like the simplicity of bore snakes lol, but a good deep cleaning once or twice a year warrants some rods, brushes, and patches.

I'm a fan of Dewey one piece coated cleaning rods. Especially handy for long-barreled milsurps. Way sturdier than the screw-togethet segmented rods, and safer for the bore.

Though I do tend to use boresnakes for just basic cleaning most often.

No experience with Montana X-Treme, but I also like Dewey rods as well as these guys: https://www.proshotproducts.com/

Another vote for one-piece dewey rods and pro-shot brushes and jags. You can get bulk packs of the brushes for commonly-used calibers, too. I have a 3 drawer craftsman toolbox on my bench that's just dedicated to cleaning stuff and gunsmithing tools...helps keep stuff organized and on-hand.

This forum sure is expensive. Just dropped around 200 bucks on an AR cleaning kit, extra jags, brushes, patches and a few other trinkets I either already have or don't possibly need.

Thanks fellas Smile

Here's my kit Tipton 1 piece rod, possum hollow bore guide, micro fiber rag, patches, and a brass jag. I've gone to using Ballistol for all cleaning purposes. I do have a tackle box full of stuff I've obtained over the years, brushes, harsher bore cleaning products, and etc. They way I made the tube there would be no problem adding multiple jags and bore brush sizes. I keep extra patches in bag in closet.

I made this up for the ease of it and travel. When I go hunting to Ga. I throw it in the truck and I already carry Ballistol in my truck box. If Rifle needs cleaning after a rather wet hunt, the rifle goes on the rifle rack on 4 wheeler and patch out wipe down. At home the tube and Tipton gun vise and I have it. Hray

Edit to add about the bore guide, they make universal ones that fit multiple calibers, that would fit in there no problem. And Yes a good quality coated rod is worth it. Dewey or Tipton would be what I would spend on.

I've been using Dewey coated rods and jags and brushes for decades, and they remain my preferred setup.

So with these coated or Carbon fiber rods, if I buy a .20 cal rod, that'll work for .30 cal rifles with a simple brush or jag change right?

They are typically SS coated right, so it SHOULD be strong enough yeah?

Don't go all ham on it and you'll be fine. Mine's a .22 36" long tipton that I use on .22 cal to .30 cal. I will say that there are times I wish I had a shorter length one. Like using it to clean a 30/30 it feels like I'm coming at it with a pole vault pole. But I need the length for my bolt guns that i push from the rear.

I sincerely wish you luck in achieving your goal. I say this because I think back on the number of times I have done the same thing, try to consolidate a cleaning supply kit and declutter.

I have always, eventually ended up with a C.A.O.T.P. kit. (crap all over the place) I gave up and have learned to embrace the fact that whatever brush, jag, rod, patch, etc., I might need is here somewhere.
