Yes we know you do not care.

But many of us do and enjoy it. Go Mariners! Smile

I've been involved in baseball all my life. Taking away the shift is one of the dumbest things they have ever done. I would much rather watch college or HS baseball!

YES

This will be wife's first Opening Day. Since the Padres were supposed to originally play at home against the Giants and are how going to play the first game on the road against the D-Backs, she thinks she's going to miss something.

Trying to tell her Opening Day for the Padres will be the 14th and we will still be there (reserved seats for Opening Day). She's not understanding - yet. Smile

And yes, I am a baseball fan. Will probably spend a few days/games watching Pony League and maybe USD too

I hope so. The shortstop playing in short right field I thought was about the dumbest thing I have seen. Wink

I don't care, but,
at the very least, I'll watch opening day for the Tigers w/ Mom. She watches only a few sports and Tigers baseball is one. I can't remember the last time I grilled dogs and brats but I think that will be happening soon for her.

Actually it's NOT Dumb at all. If statistically, that's where the hitter is overwhelmingly likely to hit the ball, then that's how you position your defense. As a Coach, you ALWAYS position your defense to take away the hit. The game is about Outs...It's just Smart Baseball

It is also on the batter.

If yuo are a lefty and the whole field is at or to the right of second base and you are not smart enough or good enough to do a hard bunt down the third base line, you are way over paid and need to experience AAA ball again.

I guess my take is that it was never part of baseball until recently. For well over a century. Whether it is smart is matter of opinion. There are lots of things that could be done in a lot of venues. But rules limit how the game is played. If there are no rules then it is called a freeforall.
That is just my opinion.

Sadly they lost me years ago. More to do with crazy cable-TV prices to watch the game, and being bombarded with advertisements every 30 seconds trying to listen to it on the radio. “The games are too long.” Yep, and they’re the reason. Two hours and fifteen minutes of baseball jammed into four plus hours.

I love baseball, but I can’t watch it/listen to it.

Ready for another season of the Twins sucking. It's the basement of the Central Division for us for the next few years. I'm afraid. Unless, of course, someone ejects the Falvey/Levine cartel and crowbars some $$$ out of the Pohlad's purse for some stud pitching.

I think you’re giving them way too much credit with 2.5 hours of action. If you start the timer at the crack of the bay and stop it when the runner crosses first base (or whatever base) the ball is in play on average of 8 minutes per game.

mlb.com has an audio stream for about $20 a year that gets the home and away feed for all games. The usual non-stop ads between innings are just silence. I listen and follow along with the online box score.

Actually, the shift shows just how ignorant the offense's approach to the game is. You win games by getting men on base. All the batter has to do to beat the shift is to lay a bunt down the left field line. A bunt that runs past third base and slowly up the line can buy some batters a double. Do that enough times and the defense will rotate back out of the shift and play straight up baseball.

As for watching the season this year, I don't know if I will. This will be the first time in 30+ years there won't be an Indians team for me to watch and root for. Thank you Mr. Dolan you colossal POS.

I have been a Reds fan forever. They haven’t been relevant in many, many years. Probably the basement for them as well. However I watch them every season hoping for the best. I guess that fits the definition of insanity.

You win the game by getting men AROUND the bases. Not on base. It's harder to get 3 singles than it is to get 1 HR.

And....... let's go defending WORLD SERIES CHAMPION ATLANTA BRAVES!
