My wife and I have a nearby Target store we like to shop at. The employees and staff are very professional and have done a good job during the pandemic.

But this evening.....

...we walked up to the self checkout area and encountered one of the Black employees wearing a disposable mask on which he had written BLM in large letters.

We didn't say anything and left after checking out with our purchases. I then called Target's corporate customer relations department.

I politely told the representative what happened at the store. I said that I believe people are entitled and welcome to wear a face mask or t-shirt with just about anything on it out in public, but that in businesses which deal with customers it is necessary to present a "neutral" image.

I advised her that the company should be especially concerned about how this looks to customers because it was BLM, Antifa, and other groups of rioters who looted and destroyed several dozen Target stores over the past several weeks.

I was very civil, but made it clear that what happened makes Target look uninviting to customers who simply want to shop and not have politics thrown in their faces.

We'll see if the representative forwards this to the store for a re-training session.

Screw corporate. I would've immediately talked to the manager of the store first. Then I would've contacted corporate.

I would have dropped my items on the floor and then inform the employee and manager that the mask represents a terrorist org., do they support terrorism?

Fuck that shit.

I ran into that at Batteries Plus. Only it was a commercial BLM mask. Still mad at myself for purchasing two batteries. Couldn't find them at Meijer. Later that day I saw them at Autozone (batteries). I think it was the Manager opening the store at 9Am

I haven’t entered a Target in 5 years. That was when they started the ‘Use any bathroom’ crap. They’re commies.

OK, guys, enough with the insults aimed at the OP.

12131, why didn't you ask snoris a direct question instead of framing your question as if it was directed at someone who is not present in this thread?

drill sgt, be polite to your fellow forum members, please.

I had this problem yesterday.
My oldest needed new clothes, went to Koles.
Two employees had their bullshit masks on. "Looks like we're going somewhere else."

"Hey, dad, what's up? There's a sale..."

I simply pointed and said to Son #1- "Do you think I'm going to put up with that bullshit? Or give them my money?"

"Good point, Dad."
(Damn, I'm proud of him!)
And we left. As we were walking out, one of the sales people asks "Can I help you find anything?"

"Yeah, another store where I can get clothes his size, because I'm not spending my money here." And pointed to the two idiots with their blm shit on.
Happily went down the road and spent $200.

Unless there's a place that I absolutely have to / need to go into and spend my $ because they've cornered the market on some "widget" I need, I'm going to walk on down the road and letting them know why.
I had a tear in my eye when my son said "Good point, dad"! He let me know that I was raising him right.

I won't watch the nfl, nba, or mlb. They can all fuck off. Sprite? I watched probably one of the most obscene commercials a while ago with Sprite supporting blm. No more buying their shit. Ford? Yup, they tossed a few million at the cause when it all began- no new Ford will ever be in my garage. There's unfortunately a litany of other companies that support the blm.

I'm a Chicago Cop.
Have been for the past 25 years.
Ill be damned if I'm going to give my money to an organization, or a company that supports an organization that openly advocated the murder of Police Officers. So I have a pretty personal reason on why, how and with who I give my $ to.

Now much like the OP' situation, it's some nit-wit employee, and (fingers crossed) not corporate policy. I'm not expecting much from some minimum wage knuckle dragger. But if my actions, or the actions of the OP cause some hapless moron their job, well... Welcome to making "real world" choices in the real world. I sure as hell ain't loosing any sleep over it.

Thanks, Para, I appreciate it. No offense taken, guys.

If it weren't for the fact that we were there to get toilet paper and paper towels, we probably would have just left. But the idea of having to make several more stops last night and not get when we needed wasn't very appealing.

As busy as it was last night, I wasn't about to make contact with the store manager. I'll do that today. The person at corporate was very apologetic last night on the phone; we'll see how my conversation with the store manager goes.

We live in a liberal society, we can vote with our money and make our purchases anywhere we so choose.

Make sure they know why you left and make it an issue, walking-out while muttering to yourself doesn't do anybody any good. Some organizations are so clueless, left to smell their own smugness, they need a wake-up call as to what's going on and how it's affecting their business.

Not dissing the OP for his decision, but I think I may have returned the items to the store shelves and asked to speak to the manager on the way back out.

I have refused to set foot in a target for years. This confirms my decision. Don’t expect them to do anything.

All good advice. Letting the manager know why you will not shop there and I would also contact the corporate HQ.

I would not immediately boycott Target because of one employee. If Target issued BLM face masks to the employees or said they encourage employees to express themselves, then sure.

What does a Target shift manager make $15hr? Knowing you work for a left leaning company, would this be a worthwhile battle? I can understand not getting involved unless there are complaints.

Chances are the employee is barely old enough to drink, if that. He could just be naive and not understand BLM's true goals. Who doesn't like to be told their life matters? If you talk to the store manager, think about that and don't go in with fists swinging ... at first.

It's a valid point that much of our population doesn't know that BLM is a radical leftist organization. We haven't had a functioning news media for years.
