I'm looking at buying either of these units. Both are multihead systems that I can add accessories to if needed. I'm interested in a unit with string trimmer, and a pole saw attachment. Both seem highly rated. I have no Milwaukee tools or batteries, and no Ego products either. So I'd be starting fresh so to speak. I'd add a cordless leaf blower, and possibly chainsaw of either brand too depending on which system I choose. So I'd like anyone's opinion here on their thoughts of the pros and cons of either brand. The Milwaukee is cheaper but that doesn't bother me if Egos are made to last. Batteries for both units seem similarly priced if I need to get replacements. I have a 1 acre lot with approx 14 trees. I have a John Deere rider for grass. Milwaukee is a little late in the game for yard tools but a leader in tools in general especially in the Battery models. I would evaluate the effectiveness and functionality of the individual tool(s) you desire and choose accordingly. Also on average yard tools need much more power aka Voltage to keep working. It is nice that the general tools of Milwaukee can be used (batteries in multiple tools) but I would be skeptical that an 18V version would be adequate for yard use. YMMV

Striker in waiting |
I have quite a few Milwaukee 18V FUEL tools, so I bought the line trimmer last year when they had it on sale w/ the blower for free. I have been greatly impressed with both of them. The trimmer is not the detachable head model. -Rob I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888 A=A

Yeah I have a DeWalt string trimmer currently and it does very good. Lots of power and the battery lasts long enough for the trimming I do around here. I bought the DeWalt because I have DeWalt tools for battery interchangablity. I have found a need for a pole saw and was thinking this would be a good time to jump into a new platform. My tools are old and will be upgraded at some point too. _______________________________________________________________ I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!!

Don't Panic |
We were in the market for a cordless chainsaw, and Consumer Reports rated the 56 Volt Ego as the best of those tested by far. So we bought that, and since have added the leaf blower (because we needed one) and the pole saw (when it went on Black Friday sale). We are very happy with the chainsaw and leaf blower. Can't speak to the pole saw but we have high expectations.

I dont have any Milwaukee tools, all of mine are Dewalt. That said I did buy an EGO blower 2 years ago to blow leaves out from in front of the house and to blow out my gutters while I walk the roof. I love it

I have an Ego Straight shaft Trimmer, hand held Leaf blower, and the backpack model. The tools are excellent. I really enjoy not having to deal with gas for the trimming. When I bought my trimmer and blower Home Depot was running a special where you got a free battery with the purchase, so now I have 2 extra batteries. The charger is really good too, it charges the batteries in about 20 minutes.

I've used a EGO 56V leaf blower many times, and it has 90% the power of my Hitachi gas blower. I use it to blow off 5,000 sq feet of pavers and there is plenty of juice left over. It's a quality machine and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. I'd go for the highest voltage possible.

I have the Milwaukee fuel trimmer. It actually has more power than gas trimmers I have used (granted I only have experience with consumer models.) The battery will trim my 1/4 acre yard multiple times without recharging, although I don't know how many because I use that battery for other tools as well. I also never have to deal with 2 stroke fuel. I plan on slowly converting all of my outdoor tools to Milwaukee as they introduce new ones and I have disposable cash. That said I really don't think you can go wrong with either brand, or any of the other top brands as well. Buy the battery system that feeds the most tools that you would use, and stick with it. I just happen to favor Milwaukee because of their wide range outside of yard tools. "The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people." "Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy." "I did," said Ford, "it is." "So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?" "It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want." "You mean they actually vote for the lizards." "Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course." "But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?" "Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

I just bought the Milwaukee version last Saturday on a whim. They are offering the free blower again with purchase, so I gave in. It is plenty strong for basic weed trimming around the lawn. When in the tall stuff, my Echo 2600 is still stronger, but the 2600 gas trimmer is larger than many home use models. I like that the trimmer will fit my 12ah batteries. The monster battery makes it rather heavy, but it'll run forever. It came with a 9ah, but it also comes with the rapid charger, which is nice. The blower is DA BOMB. It blows as hard as the gas Echo lug around, but is so tiny. Demand not that events should happen as you wish; but wish them to happen as they do happen, and you will go on well. -Epictetus

have had very good luck with the E-go products got the blower and hedge trimmers 4 or 5 years ago and they have worked well for home duty I'm sure for all day long commercial applications gas would be best but for medium size home-front jobs the convenience is unparalleled and the 'power' is more than adequate ------------------------------------------ Proverbs 27:17 - As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
