Situation awareness is defined as a continuous extraction of environmental information, integration of this information with previous knowledge to form a coherent mental picture in directing further perception and anticipating future events. Simply put, situational awareness mean knowing what is going on around you.

Good for the employees and the 1 customer. I like my LGS, but don't envision myself attempting the fat man 100 yard dash after someone running out of the store with one of their guns.

I noticed they said charged with "theft of property." I'm not familiar with TN laws, but was under the impression that since they were armed (w/ the guns they tried to steal) that "aggravated theft of property" would be a more appropriate charge.

Does TN law have different charges and more importantly stronger sentencing guidelines for being armed?

That one guy wasn't too dedicated cause he went out with his hands up and came running back with his hands up. Must be something scarey about being a criminal. That a way cool breeze... Big Grin

Four Chattanoogans charged in Murfreesboro gun store theft
Evan T. Bell, 21, and J'Darrius J. Rice, 19, and two 17-year-old boys were arrested and charged with theft of property.

A gun store theft in Middle Tennessee resulted in the arrest of four people from Chattanooga.

Police were called to Bullseye Gun Gear & Pawn in Murfreesboro on Tuesday to investigate a possible theft.

When police arrived, gun store employees were holding six people at gunpoint in the parking lot.

Murfreesboro police said employees told them three males came into the store wanting to look at handguns.

"While holding the guns, two of the males ran out of the door with the firearms," a spokesperson explained.

Store employees chased the suspects and detained them. They also held three other people who were in the getaway vehicle until police arrived.

The employees were able to get the stolen guns from the vehicle before officers even got there.

Officers then found two additional loaded guns in the vehicle.

Evan T. Bell, 21, and J'Darrius J. Rice, 19, and two 17-year-old boys were arrested and charged with theft of property. Bell was also charged with criminal impersonation.

"One of the 17-year-old males was arrested for two previous gun thefts at Bullseye Gun Gear & Pawn and not for Tuesday’s theft," police added.

Police did not charge the two other individuals.

I don't think chasing them was the smartest idea, but this gun store has been robbed multiple times recently and I'm sure they were sick of it.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

The youngest person who works at my LGS is in their early 60's.

I have my doubts about their ability to react to an in-store robbery.

I never underestimate the stupidity of the average criminal. I made a nice living off it for two decades and still do. Smile

At the LGS I work part time in we keep a Benelli behind one counter and a Mossy 590 behind the other. In addition to our sidearms. Thats for the armed robbers.

We keep all the firearms in the back of the shop, away from the exit to prevent a snatch/grab n run. An electronic lock on the only exit is a back up.

And employee discretion is used to determine who gets to actually hold a firearm. If those three had come in our shop asking to handle a gun, they would have had to show a CCW or purchase permit, which one of us would hold on to while they examined the gun. Don't have a CCW or purchase permit? Sorry, look through the glass then.

That cuts down on problems. For us. Regards 18DAI

There used to be a police supply and gun store in Houston called Alexanders. It is long gone, but once some knuckleheads tried to rob them. The three employees in the store all pulled their guns and shot the robbers.

People can be stupid, can't they?

That wasn't a particularly well executed plan.

Oh, wait, what plan?

Getting in the passenger side of the parked truck alone was pure genius. Is that the feared Ostrich Move?

Ha looks like the one guy running out didn't realize they'd moved the truck.

The last guy in that crew just stood there when the guy stole the other gun. He looked surprised about the robbery, he was holding a gun and the other guy grabs one and runs.
