Yeah, that M14 video guy... |
FedEx denied me a firearms shipper's account. I've been using pirateship to ship via USPS. How is shipmygun? Anything I should know about them before using them? I have an account created but am wondering how it works after UPS created those ridiculous rules last year. I mostly ship long guns, but I do have a pistol up for sale and I need to see about how to ship that. I guess I can just use USPS from FFL to FFL. TIA, Tony. You're FFL. Why not just use USPS? Cheaper, isn't it? Q

Not for long guns. UPS is usually cheaper, sometimes by as much as $30 cheaper. Shipping a 30 pound package that's over 48" can run my customers up to $200 after insurance. Pirateship buys in bulk through USPS and UPS and they will tell you which one is cheaper. Smaller packages can sometimes be cheaper through USPS compared to UPS. I used to query all three and use the cheapest one. Tony. Owner, TonyBen, LLC, Type-07 FFL www.tonybenm14.com (Site under construction). e-mail: tonyben@tonybenm14.com

Curious, not trying to get personal but why is Fed Ex doing this?

They asked me a bunch of questions and after they found out how many firearms I was shipping, they said I didn't have enough volume to qualify for a firearms account. I think I said I was shipping 2 to 4 firearms a week. I was pretty pissed. Tony. Owner, TonyBen, LLC, Type-07 FFL www.tonybenm14.com (Site under construction). e-mail: tonyben@tonybenm14.com

So 100-200 firearms shipments per year wasn't enough for them... Do you have a specific reason not to use the USPS for your firearms shipments? Surely there could be lots of reasons I guess, and you may even have multiple reasons, but many FFLs use them. I'd think they'd certainly be the least expensive option, though I'm sure that's probably not your primary concern. ____________________________________________________________ If Some is Good, and More is Better.....then Too Much, is Just Enough !! Once you get up to certain dimensions with USPS (>48") and tack on insurance they get pretty pricey... Way more than you probably think. __________________________________ NRA Benefactor I lost all my weapons in a boating, umm, accident. http://www.aufamily.com/forums/

Can you appeal it, they have the rules online you can print out to see if there is a minimum requirement for being a FedEx firearms shipper or firearms account restrictions. I searched the PDF for firearms, guns, minimums and nothing comes up. Link to Account I can't see them not taking an account with your volume, can you still ship through them without an account as an FFL over their counter? here is the link to the Firearms page, you have to have an FFL to ship, and there are some requirements that you have to meet to ship FedEx, which you probably know... But it doesn't say you have to have an account, or, you can't have an account.
Link FedEx Firearms Rules Wonder if you could setup an account and say it's for shipping machine parts, which it is, then use your account to charge any shipments, just have your FFL on file for shipping a firearm.

After you get your label from SMG you have to drop the firearm off at a customer counter at UPS. UPS stores and drop boxes don't count. Maybe in other areas they give you a label for FedEx. The last time I used them it was UPS. _________________________ "Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it." I've seen it bounce between the two, but the last pistol I shipped was it UPS. I know locally you have to take it to what we call the UPS "hub". I think UPS calls it a customer center in their vernacular (vs store or access point).

UPS expects it's FFL account holders to ship 50 guns per day. This is being done expressly at the request of the White House and Dems as they try to lock down legal pathways for lawful commerce as an outflow of their inability to get "gun safety" legislation through Congress. Last time around, it was pressure on the financial sector to limit the ability of FFL's to use credit card processors and their choice of banks. My local FFL ships several guns per day with UPS...5-10 and UPS initially shut them down as well with the new rules this past January. They're currently on pause from shipping out as they're trying to decide if it's worth the hassle....I'm having to look for alternatives as well as a collector who is trying to ship things legally. Even my normal FFL is no longer an option for me due to these new rules. I had a thread posted prior about needing to figure out how to ship a gun home used on a cross country trip and there is no way as an individual to do that legally in 2023 on your own.
