This man assisted in guarding and probably torturing other human beings, and the world knows it. There should be no repercussions from anyone for deporting him. Yes, justice was disgustingly slow, but they still caught this piece of excrement before he left this world. He needs to face up to what he did, and the whole world should know the horror of what he did to the people he guarded. He’s had decades to fess up, come clean, and he just hid, collecting money for it, hoping no one would notice. Did he get to have a wife and kids? A nice life in a beautiful country? Think about the people whose lives he destroyed, lives he took. I’m ok knowing my tax money was used to chase him down.
I’m not interested in having illegal immigrants here, either, but the scale differs on his deliberate destruction of human life, and their desperation to try and start a new one (I don’t know, but I don’t think what they did was on the scale of what he did).

I have to wonder what choice guys like Berger really had to refuse an order or request a transfer to different duty.
Refusal would have mostly resulted in (sudden) death at the hands of an officer and a request to be transferred may have had the same results or a duty assignment worst then death.

Pretty hard to say unless you really had to "live" the situation.

The most interesting thing to me is that the government department formed to round up and capture ex-Nazis keeps getting larger and larger even as the need for it disappears. Like most gov. organizations, it's core purpose is to grow just for it's own sake although they are now saying that they are perusing "war criminals", apparently we will never see this new group of bureaucrats go away. Long after the last Nazi is planted, this group of new bureaucrats invented to chase the Nazi's of WW2 down for justice will be with us, larger and costlier and more intrusive than ever.
